My friend and I were just talking about mistakes me had made when we were inexperienced Neopians. She told me about how she sold her Hypno Helmet for about 5000NP right before it skyrocketed.
So the question is, what stupid things have you done?
Me, well... Back when all those amulets were released, Thyoras Tear and the Life Giver one and all those, I told my rich (well she was rich by those days standards) friend how much I liked them and how much my pet would look cool wearing them. I went on and on about the Life Giver amulet. She asked me if I liked Thyoras Tear and I told her not really. That Christmas she gave me a Life Giver amulet.
Had I said that I liked Thyoras Tear better, I probably would be 18 million NP richer today.

I sold my MSPP card a couple of months back for 800k. How I wish I'd kept hold of it lol (Hmm,... that doesn't fit under 'young' since I was 18 months at the time lol)
I also got a Fire pb from a RE and instead of finding out how much it was worth and selling it, I painted a Pet which I don't really like anymore lol (This was when I was young - about 2-3 months)

A long time ago, I would see those websites that you would enter your username, password, and what you wanted, and I would make other accounts to use for that. Needless to say, those accounts were frozen within a day.
Now I see the 'error of my ways.'

Hmm, well of course, we know so little when we start out...I've missed out on some amazing bd items in user shops. Why? I had no idea what the stuff was and was totally clueless on the whole bd thing. No, I still don't battle -- can't afford it and it just seems too confusing even after 2 years.
The biggest mistake though? Falling for a fake login page scam. I had only been on the site a few months, wasn't in a guild, never went near the boards and though I'd read the wall of shame, etc., I'd never seen a fake login page. So I go merrily typing everything in thinking I'd been somehow logged out.
Took the scammers about a week to clean my bank account out (I had found games -- and neohomes and paint brushes) and was playing feverishly to earn enough for my first pb, so they got around 500k. But they did it so slow, I thought I was somehow forgetting how much I had in the bank. So I never changed my password. Then one day - bank empty, they moved all my items around (didn't take anything, just played with my head). THEN they changed the password. Took me about 3 months to get that first account back. At least back then they weren't dumping your pets in the pound, so I had them. They were the most important thing, and still are.
I never did get my wishlist/goals back to where they were before being scammed. Though I loved and still love the game, that honestly did take something from me, I just don't work that "hard" anymore knowing it could be gone in an instant.

My biggest mistake was logging on to a fake login screen. I was young back then, but I still felt really stupid. -_- Now my old account just...sits there..

On my second day I got a snow PB so I painted my pet with it - thinking that pbs were a dime a dozen - I don't even like the look!!!

I went to the Kitchen Dude to get a quest. The stuff he wanted was too expensive so I didn't get it. I then went back after the deadline and had him yell at me for failing to get the items and ruining his food. And then that little button that told me to get out of there. Same thing with the witch and the Snow Faerie--all of them yelled at me and told me to get out of there. I got so scared that something bad would happen that I never went back for another quest--for months.

when i was a newbie abt 3 years ago, i didn't know about the shop wizard, so i bought things i like from the neopian shops. i also did not know how the battledome works and try to equip my pet like in an RPG. i remember spending my hard-earned nps from playing games (didn't know how to restock then)to buy a full set of armour (silver helmet, silver armour) and a captain three leg sword (something like that...didn't know it was an eyrie only weapon, bought it because it was the cheapest and because it is a sword). my first venture in the trading post is also silly. i remember, with no distinction of item value, i was attracted to a moltenore and bidded some codestones on it. it wasn't until weeks later when i know how to play the game properly.
along the way, i also once thought the answer to brain tree quests were fixed and it seems that a lot of early fan sites then thought so too. i also tried to visit coltzan shrine at exactly 12am to get 1 million and insisted that there was a fixed pattern for the cove to restock. hehe...it was still funny now that i think back.
luckily i was quiet during my newbie times and didn't make a fool of myself in the neoboards then.

I bought A Mutant Kougra Trans and used it. Next day I abandoned the pet. I also never bothered with the Lab though I bought 10 pieces I didn;t know how to use them and sold them for 5k each

I thought of another one that always makes me smile--because I now resell items "for a living." I was looking for something on the wiz and saw it really cheap. I found other cheap things in the shop--but it took me forever to realize that they were cheap because I had to look up each item on the wiz.
Eventually, I had spent so much time in the store finding a bunch of bargains, that I was moaning about all of the stuff I had gotten and would now have to reprice to put in my shop. So, my daughter, bless her heart, said "Mom, next time, just go in the shop, get the item, and stop looking around at all of the other stuff." And, for awhile I did. I wonder just how many bargains I missed out on!!!!
And a couple more: I had just made a shop, checked the shop wiz only once and priced my item to be the cheapest. I then checked the shop wiz to see if my item got there OK, and was outraged. My shop wasn't anywhere to be found. I didn't realize that the shops were divided up into 8 separate lines and I had to refresh a number of times before my line came up.
And, I spent way too much time playing with my pets to get them delighted. I would get a toy, play with my pet. Then get another toy, play with my pet. Then get another toy, play with my pet. I didn't realize you could use the refresh button to play with the same toy over and over and over.

I bought a Hopso for 40k, when they were only worth like 3k...
of course, buying three PBs for 5k each (red, yellow, purple) made up for it.

my pet got neomonia (i think) from the WoE when i was quite new, and i spent a very long time saving up for the dumb medicinal soap. it was outrageously expensive, and to make matters worse, i didn't know how to use the shop wiz so i manually dug through user shops from the map! i was so frustrated!
to make matters worse, three or four days after i healed my pet with the soap, it got sick AGAIN. i was ready to quit! but then i just happened to go to the healing springs and when i checked my lookup, my pet was healed! i figured out that the springs could heal diseases and i felt dumb that i spent nearly 10k. 10k being everything i had at the time.
i also manually went through user shops whenever i got a faerie quest, because i didn't know i could ask for help on the boards or join a guild.
there are prolly a million things i
still don't know, actually.
