me thinks, perhaps, you were now supposed to know... It's probably that you're hitting a specific server, whereas using http://www.neopets.com hits the cluster, allowing for load-balancing and such...

meh - I don't understand computer stuff - although that does make sense.

hmmm - gonna try some others.

Just look at the last few lines of the source on a page on neopets.com and you see on which server you are. They have plenty.

while it doesn't surprise me that they have moultiple servers, something in the address did raise an eyebrow... look at it again:
http://www150.sjo.neopets.com/

'SJO' is the airport code for San Jose, CA (for those that didn't know), but it seems to me that if they put something like that in the naming of their machines, do they have computer farms in other cities/countries? I know it's mostly down now, but the place you can find it is in the last part of the source code of a page.. it'll be something like this:
Code:
<!--
www151.sjo.neopets.com
//-->

Can people post non-SJO servers if they find them?

there was one more that did not have an sjo in the url and the number (i believe) came after the url...

those different servers...one thing i notice was that you can't restock at those sites.

Yeah, you can't do anything, but navigate around the pages. Anything with a button or a javascript link won't work. The only two servers that works like Neo's main one are slower, so they aren't much useful.
