Neopets is a virtual pet site - with a ton of flash games, features, and content, however; it attracts adults, kids and teenagers - and with that being said; is Neopets meant to be played by the kids - and is catered for the kids, or is for all audiences?
With all that being said; do you think Neopets should try to focus on making the site more enjoyable for all ages or what?

I think neopets offers something for all age groups.

True, but definitely more for the younger people.

All age groups with a growing emphasis on tweens.
My younger sister (9ish) my mother (oldish) and I (19) all play. My mom and I are waaay more into it than my sister. It is still difficult for her to understand everything that is involved with earning np and all that stuff. She does love dressing up her pets (although she does need help getting the clothes, even with the NCM).
Neopets on the surface is pretty kid friendly, but once you get a little deeper it still has pretty complex and mature things going on that you need to be able to understand to succeed at.

I think it has something for everyone if you know where to look. Me, my best friend, my other friend, all of our little sisters (coincidently, all 9-ish) and my uncle (
) all play and we pretty much all love it.

Neopets was started as a site geared towards college students. However, as it has become more commercialized, the latest trends show that it has focused more on younger demographies. I would prefer it to shift back up somewhat to cater a bit to people who really do know how to play the game and reward such people for their time spent on this site instead of trying to help new players more.
Of course, I'm obviously biased having played this site from very early on.

I agree with you nannerz. I really wish that they would provide some incentives or something for those of us that are long-time players.
Also, I think they should focus equally on each age demographic. They really alienate a lot of the older players when they make such drastic young kid/tween changes to the site and content.

Bah...the way TnT is going, they don't really care as long as they can maximize their revenues.
I personally would like to see some more work done on the battledome as many of the long-time players have invested a lot into their pets' training and sets, myself included.

I think it's increasingly being directed at younger audiences. The advertising and promotions mainly seem to be aimed at the kids and the site itself, I think, is gradually sliding down towards those in their early teens. Yes, there's no doubt that there are still things that older players can do but I know, having spoken to a large number of friends, that there seems to be a growing discontent particularly given that most of the new content is directed at the sliding of the target audience so those that aren't targets aren't being regularly stimulated.

I think Neopets is catering more and more to prepubescent girls and the 8-12-ish age group, which is pretty sad, in my opinion. I would love to see them make the site more fun for the rest of us.

While I think Neopets has something for people of every age group, I think they mainly target pre-teens.

I thought it was painfully obvious. Neopets caters to young kids and is pushing us older players way.

What she said. Sorta. Maybe even younger than pre-teens.

While the site is becoming more and more directed at a younger demographic, it is still the older players that are most successful at the game from what I've seen.

I would say it attracts younger, but they aren't completely involved. I tried to explain all of Neopets to my mom the other day and she didn't get it. Neopets can be fairly complicated considering it is a kind of functioning economy.
