Flicking through my newspaper today, I came across this article. First thing that caught my eye was the page that the girl is looking at on her laptop.
Scanned at a larger size so it's readable.
"'Secret Language' Adopted by Pedophiles"

That is oddly ironic; the picture of the child looking at neopets in that article. It was probably a site the child plays, and a site the parent(s) would allow their child to visit to snap the picture. And yet...
It almost made me ROFL

Either it's a coincidence that Neopets is there, or it's there for a reason. I don't know which.

It could be a stock photo.
Strange article, though. BRB? LOL? G2G? why are they on the danger list?

Not that it is dangerous, but it's something parents don't know what is the meaning, and i think it's good for them to know

Could also be because neopets is a site that is known to have alot of children and adults on it at any one time.

I'm thinking their on the list as an example of some of the rest of chat speak so parents can get an idea when they look at their child's chating, what it is they are reading. Alot of times these articles are writtten for the 12 o'clock flashers out there.

That article made me laugh, if parents really need to know what acronyms mean they could just google them... and if parents aren't capable of doing that then they really shouldn't be letting their young children play with something they don't understand.
The picture did amuse me though, with neo's current filtering and warning/suspension/freezing policy I'd really like to see someone try to keep a dodgy conversation going on for long.
Heh.

Wow, lol. I don't think pedophiles frequent Neopets too often, as it's incredibly censored. At least no one's even attempted to pick me up on Neopets

Haha, what's with the sudden flood of articles on this kind of thing lately?
There was one posted in Misc. Disc. a few days ago, with pretty much the exact same list of chtspk acronyms. Heh.

I've had internet access for 8 years and chatting for about 7, and I've never even heard of about half of those acronyms. I think they're making them up to scare parents. Seriously, they think people type out "naked in front of computer" enough times that there's a need for an acronym?! O_o

lol That's exactly what I was thinking.

^ Yeah that's what I thought too. I haven't heard of most of those acronyms. But maybe I just haven't been talking to the right people? XD

I feel so old, I've only heard of five of those before, but perhaps that's because I'm not a pedophile?
The program it's self being created to detect these acronyms is a bit dodgy in my eyes, what if there's someone like me who doesn't use acronyms too often, but is an "lol" smurf? I can just imagine sending a friend with small children an e-mail containing 10 "lol"s and breaking the system! heh.. or those peopel that insist on using nothing but chatspeak, can you imagine?

Considering that they are both from Australia in such a limited timespan, they are copying each others articles of nonsense.
