Duping's back, be careful!

Thu Jan 04, 2007 3:15 am

Was just on the site, doing my usual BDC lurking. Apparently someone with too much time on their hands has found a way to dupe certain items. And people are being frozen for having them. It looks like they're being passed through the TP and auctions.

So if you see a cheap krawk, ice ss, RoTL -- and other things I'm not remembering right now, please do NOT bid on them. Your account isn't worth that alleged "deal".

I feel so bad for TNT having to mop up yet another mess. I also feel bad for anyone who buys any of the duped items who isn't aware (doesn't go on the boards, doesn't come here, etc.) who will end up frozen for abusing a glitch. Those who did know and went ahead and bid anyway and "won", well, sorry, but IMHO they knew better and shouldn't have tried to get away with it.

I've blocked nf requests and items just in case.

Oh jeeze. I narrowly avoided the last duping scare; I'm sad to see another one take hold of the site.

*goes to block certain actions as well*

EC, I swear to God, it is the same little punk who did this last year. Doing it just to taunt Neo. Nothing better to do with his life than try to figure out new ways to get around things. Thanks for the heads up. I'll let my guild and BDer friends know.

Eeek when you say cheap, you mean dirt cheap?

I just bid on an auction for a draik transmog and although its roughly the same price as the ones n the TP Im now a lil worried reading this  I panic easy when it comes to this account Ive worked bloomin hard to get it like it is.

OoOoOoooooH cant these people go out and find something else to entertain themselves

If a scammer really wants NP that bad, why not just create more NP for oneself?

Seems there is some other satisfaction from the scamming OR they are not smart enough to just create a lot of NP for themselves so to be 'happy'?

What makes a scammer happy? Not the end means but the trickery?

Morningstar! I don't know if it's the same person ... some of the BDC'ers say it's someone who's username started with an R originally, been frozen a few times, blah blah blah. You know, the usual.

Anjuna, I really think some people get a sick thrill out of getting other people iced and cheesing TNT off. Plus they know there's only so much TNT can actually do to them.

Gabby, I hadn't heard anything about draik (or any other) TP, so if what you're bidding on is the right price I'd guess you should be ok. If you're really worried, if you win the auction put the potion on the trading post with a note to TNT to delete it if it's duped and report the auction - username auctioning it, lot number, date, what you paid for it and that it's on the post and give them that lot number. You should be contacted by someone.

If you get anything that you even think is duped Don't use it, discard it, sell it, give it to anyone or the money tree. Put it in trades with the note to TNT and send a report in.

What's cheap and what's too cheap? Hmmm, ok. Let's say you're looking for RoTL (one of the duped items). They generally seem to be selling for around 4.2 to 4.4 million. Now, you see one in auctions for 2 million. Or you find a krawk petpet buyable. That should be a big warning signal ... do not even think about bidding/buying.

Remember, if it looks to good to be true, it probably is. You all have NO idea what I'd do if this was my kid and I found out they were doing something like this :x

I have missed you too, EC! And ha, Sandra (ahoteinrun) has threatened to make me eat gruel cookies for staying away so long. What can I say? Busier than a freaking little bee on Gatorade. What I wouldn't give for a houseboy or two to do my chores and give me back some time for PPT? Thanks, once again, for the heads up, sweetie. I am getting tired of these little punks doing this to us. And you are right. If it was my kid, oh my. . . you don't want to know. :)

Thanks for the update. I actually heard about this over in the TP a few days ago by some suspecting users, but their theory died down until now. :P

Thank you very much for that warning. I just made some big profits on the stock market and was looking to shop around for a bit, but I can wait until this clears up.

Thu Jan 04, 2007 9:29 am

kinda spoils my mood when I just sniped a krawk trans off the shop wiz and I come on the boards here to find it might be duped :(

Anyone has a list of the probable things that were duped?

Thu Jan 04, 2007 10:15 am

oh good grief, cant they ever grow up and find something better to do then this?

Thu Jan 04, 2007 10:54 am

Ugh. Yet another reason to be wary of anything I do on Neo..

People need lives.

What happens if we do make an offer, and its accepted?

No I siriusly dont understand. i was around for the last scare.

Thu Jan 04, 2007 8:16 pm

If you make an offer on a duped item, you'll get it - it will show up in your inventory.

Every item has a unique identifier number (which is different from the item ID, by the way), and duped items all have the same ID number. So all TNT has to do is figure out which item is being duplicated (really easy, actually), and delete that ID number, and clear out all of the items in question. Beforehand they'll probably take a look and see who has items with that same ID and how they got them - if it looks suspicious, they'll freeze. Otherwise, they'll just yank the items out of users' inventories.
