Upgrade to Acrobat Reader 8.0 to protect from new CG's

Thu Jan 04, 2007 12:38 am

I have not seen any exploits using it yet for Neopets, but make sure you update your Acrobat Reader to 8.0.

There is a vulnerability in older versions or Acrobat Reader that could allow people to break into your account by luring you to another web site.

Please do not ask me to post details, as I will not help people trying to steal accounts.

Uhm.. what does Adobe have to do with CGs?

A vulnerabilitiy in adobe allows an attacker to exercute code on your computer that can be used to steal cookies.

It's legit, I read about it too. Though.... I haven't heard about people using it to CG, as yet?

It can only be exploited if you click on a link to download a PDF, though ... so if you're concerned, double-check links on suspicious sites (you can do this by hovering your mouse over them and looking at the link address at the bottom left of your browser) before clicking, particularly if it's a link to a PDF.

No, I haven't heard that either.

Yes, good tip.

Or y'know, you could just update Acrobat Reader. :D :D

Hahaha, littlemac, that is a good point! And so easily done, too. :)

They can use IFrames so it is silent.

Littlemac, I heven't heard of people using it as a CG... yet. I'm posting this mainly as a preventive measure.

For lazy people, the link to download the new acrobat reader is:

I'll be updating it

Thanks for the heads up!!

But to be perfectly honest, I haven't used it for... ages

*goes to update*

I have 8.0 on my offline computer, but I won't have to worry about it on this one.
Thanks for the heads-up, though. :)

Haha, yes, good point.

For some reason I have a tendencies to avoid doing updates unless I really have to (or want to). I think it's due to being on dial-up for so many years, when updating a program like Reader could take an hour or two :( *still traumatised*

Though, it might also be handy for people on work computers which have admin restrictions.
