Well, doing quests for the Dark Faerie will help
If you get a rare faerie quest (aka Space, Queen, Fountain) do them...there's a chance of increase there.
Training at Krawk Island or Mystery Island in Endurance will help (though it can be pricey)
Supposedly approaching Coltzan's Shrine exactly on the hour will increase hp, but I haven't been able to do that yet...
Rumor has it that doing the Kitchen Quests may help as well, but it is fickle. I've never actually tried that myself.
Hope that helps

Kitchen Quests do help...occasionally. The rewards are really random, but you can get some decent hp increases from them.
When you see pets with super-high hitpoints and relatively average stats otherwise, they've usually been zapped with the lab ray. The lab doesn't decrease hitpoints at all, but it can lower (or increase) your pet's other stats, and change its species, gender, or color. It's an excellent way to gain a lot of hitpoints if you don't mind the other results.

There's other ways. You can also train. Train at the training schools. Train your pet's Endurance to increase. To increase your pet's hp, as in.
(Yay I'm happy. I am finally ungoosed!)

The most expensive to start off but cheapest in the long run is to buy all 9 pieces of map to the Lab Ray. One of the daily zaps can add 5 HP!
The results are random and it can change all your pets stats including Species, Colour, Gender, Level, Strength, Defence, and Movement.

The kitchen quests are favourite way to get stat boosts. (if you only want hp's it isn't too much use but for all round stats I think it's great)
As long as you don't spend more than around 3k per quest you're alright. You'll either get a stat boost (the last 4 quests i did resulted in this) an item (often worth around 3/4/5k) or the bad one, which is just around 1k in np.
Anyway, I think kitchen quests are great
