Changing gender

Aside from using the lab ray, is there something I can give to my pet to change it's gender without changing it's species? I don't care if it results in a colour change though.

Cape of the Sun will turn a male pet female if it has at least 11 intelligence. You can also fight the Lab Ray Scientist in the battledome to change your pet from male-female or female-male. The Pocket Lab Ray can also change gender, and Strange Potion will, but they are both very expensive. I think that's it, aside from the lab ray... someone correct me if I missed one.

Pity I want to change my pet from female to male, and I have yet to receive the Lab Ray Scientist as a challenger. I'll take a look at the others you posted though. Loks like it will be an expensive process

Merp, I accidentally labbed the wrong pet the other day, and he turned into a she

I don't know whether to feel lucky or unlucky!

I've been refreshing for the Lab Scientist for ages... is he very rare? Or ... quite random?

As I recall, you refresh on the page with your pets crying to get the lab ray scientist. I don't remember it taking an awful amount of time refreshing to get him. I do have a low boredom threshhold on those kinds of things.

there used to be a potion that would change it. I think it was the strange potion but i'm not sure. it had the symbols on it for male/female

The Strange Potion is still around but it now looks like this:

And it's insanely expensive.

Also if you change the gender of a pet that has gender specific artwork (ie the royal and usuki pets) the artwork doesn't update.

Lab Ray Scientist is easily the most convenient option, provided you have the lab ray (which you need to get him). Refreshing to get it won't take that long, and it's perfectly safe and repeatable after that.

So...just to be clear. If you had a female pet and wanted male, the Cape would NOT work, right?

Yes, I noticed that the strange potion just wasn't anywhere to be found

. Well out of my price range. I now have the lab ray scientist though. How likely is he to give a gender change?

The reason I want to do it is that I wish to paint my Ruki Desert but wish to keep the name, and I think being male would suit much better.

Hard to say. It may take a few battles with him before your pet's gender gets changed. Still, fighting him a couple of times is easier than the other options.

The easiest option might be to leave your pet female--all the little girls today are getting named traditionally male names and wearing armor now. I'd leave her be. Of course, I'm lazy.
