How to Beat the Braintree?

What's the best way to beat this unsightly beast? Any suggestions would be most welcome!

IDB suggests you should have a "Scamander Shield" for defence, but looking at what the user ratings is, maybe that isn't such a good option lol.
I don't think the brain tree's weapons are quite effective but maybe his faerie abilities might help him... I don't know, but I don't think most of them are effective either
