After testing it for a bit, after you've gone to about:config, chagned the settings, and then leave the page, thinking nothing about it, you feel pretty good. Once you click the alert button, the settings reset themselves. You can try this out for your self, if you like. But, thats what I've discovered.
I left the about:config page open, and then clicked the toolbar alert, my settings {that were just changed} went back to default. From what I can tell, though stressful, is to leave the about:config page open, and to remember to change your settings, every time you click the button.

I am not too sure what you mean.
after you've gone to about:config, chagned the settings
Are you talking about removing certain items from the toolbar? Because I have successfully removed email, favourites, shopping icons from my toolbar and they stay off.
I don't know where "about:config" is. I use Toolbar Options - Button Visibility (uncheck those you don't want) then click OK.
Or are you talking about something else?

Its something else. The alert button itself, doesnt flash for alot of us Firefox users. And after we change the alert button settings, once you click the alter button, the setting go back to the default ones.

I see exactly what you're talking about, WolfMaiden, and find it very depressing. What a pain!

Its very depressing really. We finally find a way to get the alret button to work, and it still messes up, once the buttons clicked

Hmm. I haven't checked what it does when I click the alert button. As far as I can tell though, after I click the alert button, only the check.alert interval changes (back to 60). Everything resets when I open up a new instance of FireFox, even if there is already a window open.

Your lucky thats all that changes. Everything I change, changes back, when I click the alert button.

Eh, just checked, mine does completely reset when I click the button. Argh. Makes me wish I knew how to code things.

I got all excited this weekend when my alert button finally flashed while Tarla was at least still dropping crumbs. On her next trip, my button flashed when she was still there! I thought some programmer was hard at work, and my opinion of TNT had never been rosier. Now my button is all off again and I got so irritated that I uninstalled the toolbar again, lol. That won't last long though, I really need it for the email alert. XD I'll probably put it back on in a few hours and slowly build up frustration all over again.
More than the Tarla button being off, I've been more annoyed at the Neomail alert button. It goes off minutes after a Neomail arrives, and stays on close to two minutes after I've read my Neomail. Okay, so it doesn't ruin my life, but it is quite irksome.

And HOW do you change the settings at all? I can't seem to figure out what you mean by about: config etc

go to any page in fire fox, in the address bar type about:config exactly like that
Next, the little address bar there, it'll say Filter: type neopets
next thing you want to do, it the very first thing you will see is
neopets.toolbar.AlertPeek.AlertFlag
Right click under value, and then click toggle, it will change it to true
next, find the line that says
neopets.toolbar.AlertPeek.Interval
{this should be easy, as its right below the other one}
Right click agian, and then click modify. After the pop up window appears type in any numbers between 10-60 then ok. And your done.
Though, if you click the alert button, and it isnt blinking, you'll have to go back to the about:config page and change the settings again.

Thanks Wolfmaiden.
Edit: Upon further investigation. The number value resets everytime a new instance of FF is opened, and both reset when the alert button is clicked. I think it's one of those very Windows specific type problems.

FF dont even let me go to the about:config page anymore

I just used about:config. It worked, letting me change the value from "false" to "true." However, when I tried to reset the interval from 60 to 10, 15, 20, and 25... a fraction of a second after changing the digits, they bounced back up to 60.
Bah.
I'm not switching from Firefox just for the toolbar. I hardly ever get anything from Tarla anyway
