Top five reasons to avoid the Neoboards:
5. The minute you post you can expect at least four begging neomails asking for your pets, paintbrushes, and all the np in your bank account.
4. My pet wants to date your pet. and What pet's feet do you like the best? I wish I were kidding.
3. It's always creepy when adults and young children get together in a place where no one can tell which is which. You know I'm right!
2. Warnings/Being frozen. Maybe this should be at the number one slot. You may think you can control yourself, but under the right circumstances you may be surprized what you will post. 2/3 warnings I ever received were on the Neoboards, not that I did anything wrong, misunderstandings will happen on the Neoboards.
1. Have you been to the neoboards? The people there are almost all annoying to the extreme. Example: Wer is the secret faerie bank??????? I hrd i cld git np fur freeeee. Pls answr mi n0w! Cume to mi shup, bai vrythn. ***-{Huggles}-*** Seriously, why would you go there when you can come here and just bypass that whole tar pit?

Moving from Misc. Polls to Neopets Related Polls.

I actually have met people I like and admire on the Neoboards. Some of the boards are more fast paced than the others. In certain quiet areas intelligent mature people can be found. Sometimes I think that if there were more categories on the boards, it would be nicer because there would be more refuges for the mature people.

In 4 years on Neo, I have only had 1 bad experience - I was warning people about a scammer and I was getting hate posts. People said they were going to report me, but I never was.
I regularly post on the plot board and games board. I enjoy the "verbal sparing" that goes on. Some posts are obviously made to be controversial and to upset. I ignore them or tell them that their posts are not appropriate.
I do report spammers, scammers, chain-letters and rude posts. (and proud of it).
If I see someone on the plot board pretending to know the answers and telling people to do this or that or to buy something, I post on the board that they are wrong and let everyone know the truth.
I enjoy the interaction (most times) and if it gets too crazy, I just leave.
I really don't understand why so many people have problems with the boards.

A couple of boards are shocking.
However, I've found that (most of the time) the Games board is good, and I've found the NQ and Trading boards to be really helpful.

I stick to the Kadoatery boards (when theres no drama), foreign language quest helping, and playing Avatar Simon once in a while when Im bored. I stay out of controversial boards, and report quietly when necessary. (None of that "OMG, haha I reported you! Have fun in Iceland!" crap.) I might have had one warning in my 64 months of chatting, so I dont have much of a problem with the boards being there. I like being able to talk to new people without joining a guild.
I think the chatspeak thing is a bit overexaggerated too. There are a lot of younger kids and even older adults who cant spell, or shorten certain words, but its almost never so bad that I struggle to understand. Even my great guild leader, a very smart lady and a mother, uses 2 for 'to' and stuff. The Newbie Board contains most of the trash, and I like it that way. Everyone's aware of what happened when General Chat was deleted.
Also, despite having an above average account, I rarely get neomails after Ive posted something on the boards. Nobody asks to borrow my Draik or Huggy for the avatar, nobody asks for neopoints or items, the most that happens is a random mail saying "Hello, whats up?" or "I like your marshmallow grundo. Its my favorite pet." I get more junk when I feed a Kadoatie or donate a Blandfish to the Money Tree.

I wish there was some way to separate the good and the bad, like you have to have an older account and no warnings to be allowed access to a section of the boards. It wouldn't solve all the problems, but I bet it would cut down on them.

I don't use them, so I don't really care either way. However, if they got rid of the Neoboards, maybe they'd have more people that could work on other areas of the site...

My account is set to under 13 to keep me and my big mouth off the neoboards

I've gone on the boards once, and that was only to get that *squwak* avatar.
Eh, I don't know if I'm scared off by the crazy stories I hear, or that they're just so huge and what not, but I've never had much interest in them.

I really dislike the neoboards, and when I do go there it's just for information, like when a new avatar comes out or something on a plot that hasn't been revealed here yet. I don't post, just read. The few times I have been there posting early on I did get some begging mails and harrassment which I reported.
My advice? If you must, you must. But if you don't need to post, then don't, and if you do, stick to the topic at hand and don't get in the middle of anything.

No, they shouldn't be abolished. They're great to check if you want to find out how to get a new avatar, and many of the people on them are actually smart and nice. However, there are a lot of chatspeaking little morons... but if the neoboards were abolished, they'd all move to boards like PPT here, and we don't want that.

I think they should keep them, but they need to get some monitors for those boards, just to keep people on topic.
Two Monitors at all times, day and night, for each board, who could and
would delete all post's pertaining to "will you be my boyfriend" "no boys allowed" "Eeeewww people with brown hair make me sick it reminds me of ****" "Go here and post this message 5000 times and you'll ge...."
I wish there was some way to separate the good and the bad, like you have to have an older account and no warnings to be allowed access to a section of the boards. It wouldn't solve all the problems, but I bet it would cut down on them.
I think that would be a fairly good idea. Maybe, if you get a warning you would be banned from posting on the boards for one week, if you were caught using a side account to continue posting you would have your account suspended, do it again and your account, all your accounts, will be frozen permanently.
Or something like the premium boards where I think you have to be three months into Premium before being allowed access to the charter board.
I really don't know how they could change it for the better, all I know is they do need to do something about it.

Exactly right. I also have a fairly decent account and post quite a lot of plot and games board. If anyone has looked at my account, they have always said how they like my pets.
I have
never had beggars or weird demands after posting on the boards.
Like cerise, I only get the weird nmails after feeding a kadoatie, donating to the Money Tree or having something expensive in Trades.
To be honest, I really think it is the attitude you go to the boards with that determines if you are going to have fun or a bad time. I don't have the best temper and often tell New Member what I think of them, but
never has it resulted in a warning.
I do know that some boards - newbie in particular, can be a horrible place, but in general the Neoboards are ok. All that is needed is regular monitors to keep the deliberate trouble makers off the boards.

I have only been on neopets for about a year and a half, in that time I have had six Neomails sent to me from random Neopians.
One: Was to say they loved my Gypmu petpet.
The second: They asked how to get a Tyrannian paint brush
The third: Was asking me to join a guild
The fourth: I won't tell, but the neopian was incredibly polite.
Fifth: Someone asked me where to put the Petpet laboratory map together at, she said it wouldn't work, so I told her about the Pet laboratory map, and how you had to have that first, she became very frustrated and sent me all nine pieces of the petpet map, which I promptly sent back to her and told her to save them for when she was able to acquire the regular map. She didn't understand why I wouldn't take them.
The sixth: was from someone asking for me to give them my Bottle of Purple Sand, I almost gave it to them, but then I thought they're cheap I'll just look it up for her and send her a list of people selling it....I soon learned that it was worth 60,000 neopoints, at the time.
