Mon Aug 28, 2006 7:12 am

I had some random person add me to MSN and messages them asking who it was.. they didnt reply. I then checked my email messages and saw I had an email from them saying..

hey can u help me on my neopet thing my pass is l-blocked- and my user is michaelhsu.... i know in really wierd but i hope u can help me

I of course did not log into the account but I did check it, its a 3 day old account.. i then quickly went and changed my password, deleted my cookies and my internet files. I know that sometimes you can get CGers through MSN I belive?

It does sound a bit suspicious o_O I have also heard that you can get your cookies stolen through MSN, but I'm not entirely sure. However, precautions are best, eh? Isn't MSN e-mail based? Do you know how they got your e-mail address and know that you also play Neopets?

MSN is a messenger system for hotmail.. well it is for me anyway, thats what I mean when I talk about MSN. They probably got it as it's my email address shows up on PPT news when I post about YND.

I highly recommend keeping e-mail addresses different from neopets usernames. Along with that: AIM, YAHOO, ICQ, and MSN usernames should be in no way related to your neopets account. Best to remain inconspicious.

Esp... if you have a high profile neopets account.

I would recommend making the email address that is connected to your neopets account completley different from the one you use for email, chat and make public.

Hotmail is very easy to hack (so i have been told) which is why i changed mine. No one knows my new email address, and it's not linked to anything except Neopets.

Granted it's a small annoyance, but compared to the alternative it's nothing :)

I tried to use the neopets webmail that comes with premium as my email address but it wouldn't let me. That would be a nice way to keep everything tidy and separate. Oh well

It's a scam run for your life :P

Yep, it looks a little suspect, though I'm no authority.

I know enough people that have had their hotmail etc hacked just before losing their neopets accounts, so you did the right thing.

Like I say, I'm no authority on the matter, but better safe than sorry.

Hotmail addresses are prettyu easy to get into. That's how I got my email account scammed and almost lost my account the same day. What happened was that I was talking to somebody over AIM and they sent me some "survey" that asked about zip code and state in MSN profile, which in order to retrieve a password for your hotmail account, you need to state your Zip code, state, etc. The big mistake was having the Pet's Name for a secret question.

So yeah, I really don't recommend Hotmail.

Something similar happened to me once.
They Neomailed me and gave me their s/n and password.
This was a couple years ago, so I didn't know what was going on, but I did log into their account. They changed their password a few minutes later. How strange.

Hotmail is still easily hackable? Jeez, they've been easy targets for years now. You'd think they would have fixed that by now.

I haven't used Hotmail accounts for years, there are too many more choices that have more space and are safer.
