Item price going down in shop wizard.

Wed Aug 02, 2006 8:11 pm

I have noticed that the costs of the highly priced items (from a few thousands NP and up) have steadily gone down in SW during the last couple of weeks. These includes candies, furniture and petpets, and probably some other things that I haven't seen. For example, Baby Cybunny Chocolate Eggs used to cost 9k+ but now are selling around 6k. Greslens used to cost about 30k but you can find ones at 25k ealily. Vaeoluses were unbuyable as of a week ago but now you find quite a few below 80k. And the prices of most of the Altador Cup souvenirs have gone down significantly, some of the are well below the shop price.

Some exceptions:

-Prices for high demand items, such as map pieces (except petpet lab maps) and bottled fearies, are steady. The prices of stones have appreciated a little bit after coming down about a month ago
-The prices for the high demand medicines such bubbles herbal drink and medcinal soap have gone through the roof. For example bubbles drink used to cost about 5k 3-4 month ago but now cost 12k+.

I think at least partially this is due to the restock change. I never restocked before but started to do so about a month ago. I think the playing field now indeed get leveled quite a bit and the amature restockers like myself have a shot to get some good items. As a consequence, some of them don't have the NP or big enough a store to hold the items long so they have to price the stuff to sell quickly. And some of them don't have the discipline to price the stuff properly so they always price below the lowest in SW, some time by quite a bit.

What's your thought and experience?

You might be on to something -- especially since the codestones and map pieces (the items that are still increasing in value) are not buyable from shops. But speaking of lab map pieces, piece 4 (the rarest) has jumped from 95k to 99k between Friday and today -- I wouldn't be surprised if it became unbuyable soon. And complete lab map sets have jumped from 550k asking price to 600k asking price. There are also many people selling 8/9 of the map for 530k. So if you want a lab map, buy it now... And if you can't afford to buy it all at once, get piece 4 while you can.

Most of the items that you mentioned are fairly new items. It usually takes several months (especially if the item is a quest item, like Baby Cybunny Chocolate Eggs) but eventually there will be enough of an item that the price settles to a certain point.

Bubble Herbal Drink is the cure for the Wheel of Excitement diesease, whichh gives it a high demand. It will keep going up in price (as the supply decreases) until the disease changes. Then they will slowly drop back towards their usual price under 500np, and the cure for the new disease will start to climb in price.

Gruslins (I think) had an avatar. Prices always spike after an avatar is announced that uses items. If the items aren't extremely rare, and aren't consumed to get the avatar, the price slowly works its way back down.

Those are just a few examples. A lot of the items I saw are certainly more than a few months old, and the price started dropping since 2-3 week ago. For example, the Gruslen avatar was released in April 04. So what you said still cannot explain the sudden price drop.

The only factor I knew of was the restocking change. It happend about 2 months ago but took a month or so for the new restockers to realize they can be part of it. That, coupled with the pricing pattern I've seen while pricing my stuff, led me to believe it is one of the factors. I've had this happened to be several times already - if my item didn't sell quicly enough, the price could go down quickly. For example, I got a Electric Gormball Gumball last weekend and I put it in store for 7800. At that time it was one of the lowest priced in SW, and was the lowest priced in my group. Last night I checked it was not sold, I got bumped down 7-8 slots, and the lowest priced was 6000. If you check the store of those items, most of the case you sell they are several item from the same shop that they restocked.

So there have been suggestions that the new restocking system would help to fight the inflation. I think this is certainly true.

Most Spooky Treasure Maps are now less than 5000 nps, except for the piece with the scarecrow, which has gone to the crazy price of 13,000-14,000 nps!

Heh, but you can still find the occasional person selling that piece for 5,000. Ah, I love the SSW.

Don't forget that there are now more items restocking in shops (used to be 24, now it's up to 40 different items at a time), which helps to bring prices down.

As a restocker, I'm bummed about the price drops. As a socialist, I'm thrilled. Fact is, I don't know what to do with myself anymore.

wow! I bought the full map from someone {using the trading post} for 50k. And I just recently got it, about the middle of last month {july}.Kinda glad I got it that low. Especially after just learning, that prices have jumped that high.

Wow, that is amazingly lucky!

I actually FOUND the two most expensive pieces in RE's, and didn't know that until today when I priced them out (prior to this thread being started actually).

It is sort of tempting to sell them, but then, I'm thinking I'll want to use it to get avatars.

Now, if only the PPL would choose one of my petpets so I could start labbing the petpets!

I found 2 lab map pieces through RE's and bought 2 pieces, but then decided to sell them all and just use the trading post to purchase the whole set as I wasnt sure what good prices were for each map piece as some are more expensive then others... and when i sold them i accidently sold a piece worth 85k for 70k because I didnt do proper research!
ended up buying it from the TP a couple of weeks ago for 535k

Cheers for the heads up. I got piece 4 for 98k, it's only 1k less than the going rate I suppose but hey a bargain's a bargain! :) I was going to do the slow treasure hunt and enjoy finding the pieces one by one, rather than buying the whole lot as one set.

Right, back to the topic now - sorry bout that!
