Does anyone think this feature is getting abused? Don't get me wrong, I mean when it was implimented I though it was a good idea, but I've seen people overuse it in such a way that takes away from the 'fun' Neopian experience.
All I mostly see now is, '-insert item name here- or -insert # of np's here=, if not you're BLOCKED!' or say it's a really low priced item and the user's wishlist says, 'Lab map, NOT PETPET, or BLOCKED!'
I think it's really getting out of hand, and it's getting abused in so many ways. Anyone else think so?

I hadn't noticed, but I don't really use the trading post. I can see how it might be really annoying though, but on the other hand, I guess peole are entitled to ask for whatever they want in return for their item. It's probably only an empty threat anyway.

I have not seen that in trades, but then I haven't traded much recently, but I cannot see how it can be abused.
It is our personal preference to whom we want to be contacted by. I have a few on my block list and actually the site would be unbearable to me if I didn't have this feature.
I did have the experience of one person in particular that kept offering crap on my trades and move into sending me nmails every time I rejected the offer.
I chose to do the "block" rather than report him, which is really the only other action I could have taken.
On the other hand, I have had the block used as a wimps way out - I received a nasty nmail and when I went to reply, I was already blocked. Once again I decided against reporting, but as it was a nmail in response to a post on chat boards, I copied the message and posted it for all to see on the board.
The only time a block gets in my way is when I am playing in a monthly tournament and my opponent wont move until the "move or lose" is sent.
When they have all nmails blocked it makes it impossible to arrange a time to play the match.
Having seen both sides of the situation, I still would have the block feature.
On trades, either you accept on the terms or you don't, being blocked doesn't affect your trade unless you wanted to barter - clearly not something the trader wanted.

I'm not saying I want it removed or anything, and I'm all for a users choice, but the thing that gets me is that there's a difference in between making sure you get what you bargained for and jut being impossible.
What I think could solve this would be sort of implimenting a 'neofriends only' feature in the trades.

I see that all the time in trades, and though I've never been affected by it (as far as I know), I agree that it's annoying. It's worse when the people don't even specify what they want, but simply write, "junk items => block!" What if your bid was reasonable, but not what the person was looking for, and they block you? How are you supposed to figure out why your bid wasn't "good enough" if the person blocks you so you can't contact them?

I think that's a brilliant idea. The problem I have with using that option with the auctions is that you can't control which friend ultimately bids the highest and gets the item. At least with trades, you could reject a person's offer.

I only block people who are mean to me. I rarely block people who offer New Member things though... I admit I did exactly that for the Lost Desert Paint Brush I had on the Post about a month ago... but cough, moving on...
If you only want one person winning your private auction, shouldn't you VIP them? From what I've seen, if you VIP a neofriend, they're the only ones who turn up on the "Send to Neofriend!" list... I thought it'd work the same in the auction house...?
