Is this reportable?

Sun Jul 09, 2006 5:35 pm

Check out the shop and userlookup of the user _masta_

Would they be reportable, as anyone prone to epilepsy would have serious problems here.

What would you report them as? Offensive Content?

My Lord, that's ruddy annoying.

Did you try neomailing them to see if they'd change their lookup? They look relatively new to the site, and they probably just don't know any better. I hesitate to say "report them" off the bat because I have no idea how TNT would react to that sort of thing.

Well I think he/she's already been frozen because the username does'nt turn up in search results, without unnessecarily going into details, what did he/she do?

Sun Jul 09, 2006 5:44 pm

I think neomailing them and pointing out the thing about epilepsy sufferers would be a good idea. If it's a youngish kid they might not even know that it could be problem.

God, I've got a headache now.

As burntouttrash said, neomail them first. If they don't comply within a week, report them.

I searched them and pulled their account up.

So does that mean they have been frozen? Because I cannot find them.

I just sent him a Neomail. Hopefully I worded it kindly enough that he won't take offense and do something stupid (like report me for harassment).

Winchycott: his username is "_masta_" and I can pull him up. o_O

Ah, my bad I thought their username contained the word 'user', thanks officer.

I don't really know if it's really reportable. I mean, people have the option of viewing it, i'm sure they know the risks if they're online and have problems with flashing lights.

Sun Jul 09, 2006 6:30 pm

ouch my eyes have gone funny thats so annoying especially as its their background in the shop too thats just too much o_O :(

Sun Jul 09, 2006 6:36 pm

Annoying yes, but not much more so than any other animated background. At least this one doesn't cause my browser to slow down unbearably. Once I couldn't even buy something from a shop because the background made the whole thing unresponsive. The owner changed it after I neomailed her though :)

I really don't think it would be fair if that person got frozen. It's not in the TOS and they weren't thinking "MWAHAHAHA! I'll send people into epileptic shock with this!"

I'm glad this was sorted out well. Most people would change it if asked.

And besides, I don't think TNT would warn or freeze them for that unless a lawyer brought it to their attention, otherwise they wouldn't have a whole page of animated items for displaying all over the site.

They've got the same background in their shop, though, and if someone got there via the Shop Wiz unaware of the background...

Sun Jul 09, 2006 7:31 pm

Bloody annoying? Yes. Reportable? Far Far far from it.

I think sound files in shops (along with tons of other junk) is annoying. It is not reportable though. I recommend the polite approach if you wish change. Reporting them may well get your account flagged for being a false reporter.

Just because animated images are freely available, doesn't mean you should cram as many as possible everywhere you can or use a background that's quite clearly meant to be obnoxious. I'd have reported them rather than getting mixed up with someone who's apparently new to the entire internet. It's not freezeworthy true, but TNT would most likely just clear their lookup. Which is something they have done and currently still do, though usually to people whose horde of adoptables has borked the coding of their shop or whose lookup causes most computers to crash.
