Dear NAME REMOVED,

Congratulations! You have guessed correctly in the Lenny Conundrum game (round 171). You have won 306 NP!

Yours Sincerely,
The Neopets Team!

Ok, so I got the right answer according to TNT, but then I got confused, and Messs17 helped me out. So I've edited this with the correct math now.

Suppose you spent a total of 16480 Neopoints on four different codestones that you found on the Shop Wizard.
The Mau Codestone's cost was equal to the Tai-Kai Codestone plus half the cost of the Main Codestone.
The Tai-Kai Codestone's cost was the same as the Eo Codestone minus the cost of the Main Codestone.
The Eo Codestone cost as much as the Tai-Kai and the Main Codestones put together.
You paid three times as much for the Mau Codestone as you did for the Main codestone.

I used M for mau, T for Tai-Kai, E for Eo, and A for Main.
    M + T+ E + A = 16480
    M = T + (A/2)
    T = E - A
    E = T + A and A = E - T
    3A = M
Putting the last clue into the first clue, you get 3A = T + A/2, or 6A = 2T + A, and so 5A = 2T.

M + T+ E + A = 16480

M + T + (T+A) + A = 16480 (because E = T + A)
M + 2T + 2A = 16480 (simplifying)

3A + 2T + 2A = 16480 (because M = 3A)
5A + 2T = 16480 (simplifying)

Then you can substitute either of those things for each other... in other words you can do
2T + 2T = 16480, or 5A + 5A = 16480

That means 4T = 16480 or 10A = 16480

I seem to remember going with the 10 A because it's easy --- A = 1648

Plugging that back in, 5 (1648) = 2T ---> 8240 = 2T ---> 4120 = T (you also could have gotten that by just dividing 16480 by 4, above)

Then if 3A = M, 3 (1648) = 4944

And since E = T + A, E = 4120 + 1648 = 5768

And of course check your work:
    4944 + 5768 + 1648 + 4120 = 16480
    4944 = 4120 + (1648/2)
    4120 = 5768 - 1648
    5768 = 4120 + 1648
    3x1648 = 4944

And just in case it was not clear, the answer is 5768, the number of NP you spent on E (the eo codestone)

That should be:
3A=M
because the Main cost 3 times the Mau.

New puzzle's up:

How many pets, including neither camels nor figures on shop icons, can you find in the Sakhmet map?

How many boats are on the Krawk Island map?

How many bat wings can be found in the Haunted Fairgrounds map?

How many Grundos are hanging out in the Virtupets Space Station map?

How many potatoes can be seen in the Meri Acres Farms map?

How many eggs are in the Tyrannian Jungle map?

How many flags are in the Brightvale map?

How many trees are in the Lost Desert map?

Now, what do you get when you multiply all of those numbers together?

I got a ridiculously big number, and I still might be wrong (I found a "figure" in a flash roll-over action that I counted, even though I'm not sure I should have). :(

Edit: Shoot! I missed something. Oh well.

Sorry, doubled up the puzzle. I got an answer.... crossing my fingers!

I hope I counted everything right. I wasn't sure whether to count some things because you could only see parts of them... And did they mean actual items, or things in the shapes of those items? I did get a ten-digit number that looked good (like maybe it was picked for its significance).

I always like to check out the neoboards after I submit. There are people whining that it's too hard and can someone tell them the answer! I did find out that I might have counted one of them wrong because the number changes based on where you point your mouse... Oh, well, there's always next week.

Here's a winner from the boards: "how do we multiply it?" :roflol: I thought you had to be a certain age before you could post to the boards...

Someone said not to count the extra grundos because if you're viewing the site in html, you can't see them...

I'm not sure which version to submit.

And then there's the problem that there isn't really a "Haunted Fairgrounds" map

Edit: Ok, I submitted. *crosses fingers* There's just several different answer you could arrive at depending on how you interperted the questions.

Well, my maps are html, so I guess I counted all the grundoes that could be there for me... I'll be mad if it was all just a trick question. They've made mistakes on the LC before, so I assumed the "Haunted Fairgrounds" was just a typo. I complained about the answer to a logic puzzle LC where there were two possible answers -- one made more sense logically, but the other was a whole number (they went with the whole number; if they were going to accept that, they should at least have accepted the other number as well). I never did get a response.

I guess we'll just have to wait until next week to find out what the "right" answer is. I hope they break it down in the answer so I can figure out which one I counted wrong without recounting everything.

Thu Jun 22, 2006 2:53 am

Well I know I got it wrong either way because I missed one of the dang trees. And I remember that older LC you are talking about, the pie chart one. I got that one "wrong" too.

It looks like they're really monitoring the neoboards this week. I've read posts complaining about other posts/threads, but they had already been deleted when I went to look. In one thread, they deleted the first post within about 10-20 minutes. It's about time they keep the puzzles from being spoiled for those who actually work through it. :D

It's kind of funny, though, because I think this is one where the boards could send you further astray than if you just counted yourself...

Um... There's a LOT of them. I counted them like 10 times and finally found a method of counting that I *hope* got me the right number. Careful or you lose track of who all you've counted.

How many boats are on the Krawk Island map?

I counted the icon-type ones in addition to the regular old rowboats. I'm hoping that was the right thing to do.

How many bat wings can be found in the Haunted Fairgrounds map?

I assume they meant Deserted Fairgrounds. I'm counting the gates along with the actual bats.

How many Grundos are hanging out in the Virtupets Space Station map?

I counted guards, foreman, chef, and those at the tables.

How many potatoes can be seen in the Meri Acres Farms map?

I'm not sure about that big pile... that two-faced piece could be one or two potatoes....

How many eggs are in the Tyrannian Jungle map?

I'm pretty sure the ones around the grarrl are the only ones.

How many flags are in the Brightvale map?
Do those doubles above the castle count as 1 or 2 each? And what about the ones that are partially hidden?

How many trees are in the Lost Desert map?

Is that including the one UNDER the Sutek's Tomb sign? And behind the elephante?

Arg. This one sucks. There's a lot of different ways to interpret some questions. Plus there are the questionable numbers on others. Here's hoping! *crosses fingers*

i got confused on the haunted fairgrounds. the bat wings - 1 bat has two wings right? so do you count that as 1 pair of wings or 2 wings?

submitted though - just very dubious & doubtful about certain aspects o_O

Thu Jun 22, 2006 5:36 am

I screwed up. I stayed on the wrong Haunted Map x.x;

Thu Jun 22, 2006 5:40 am

Well, they said bat wings, not pair of bat wings. Interpret that as you will. (I also went hunting to see if there was a single wing lying around somewhere.) I was also hoping the end result would be 0, but no such luck. Ah, well.

I have to say that this one of their better "leave it to chance" type puzzles. As there are lots of ways to interpret the questions, and lots of places where you can miss one because a game sign is in the way, it does leave it to those who are observant and dedicated, not just randomly looking for the answer. So I'm willing to throw my chances to the puzzle, and maybe I'll get lucky on this one.

Aww crud. I think I miscounted the grundos in the Space Station. D:
