Lenny Conundrum 171

Thu Jun 15, 2006 6:31 am

It's up, as of 11nst.

Suppose you spent a total of 16480 Neopoints on four different codestones that you found on the Shop Wizard. The Mau Codestone's cost was equal to the Tai-Kai Codestone plus half the cost of the Main Codestone. The Tai-Kai Codestone's cost was the same as the Eo Codestone minus the cost of the Main Codestone. You paid three times as much for the Mau Codestone as you did for the Main codestone. The Eo Codestone cost as much as the Tai-Kai and the Main Codestones put together.

How much did the Eo Codestone cost? Round to the nearest whole number.

I like when the LC is straight forward algebra like this because I'm able to solve it easily. I got my answer in at 11:40 nst.

Erm, this lenny c is messed up. Think about it

The Mau Codestone's cost was equal to the Tai-Kai Codestone plus half the cost of the Main Codestone.

Unless the tai-kai codestone costs negative, which is impossible, the mau codestone costs more than half of the main codestone, so Mau > Main / 2.

You paid three times as much for the Mau Codestone as you did for the Main codestone.

From here we know that 3 * Mau = Main so
Mau = Main / 3

That means main / 3 > main / 2. This is only possible when 2 > 3 or Main <= 0. But its the show wizard. Can't buy stuff for under 1 np.

Mau = Tai-kai + (Main/2)
Tai-Kai = Eo - Main
Main = Mau/3
Eo = Tai-Kai + Main

Mau = Tai-kai + (Main/2)
Tai-Kai = Eo - Main
Main = Mau/3
Eo = Tai-Kai + Main

Isn't it suppose to be Main = 3Mau?

Well, I fell asleep. I want to SLAP myself for that. I was GOING to win Better Than You and Lenny Conundrum. I probably lost the chance to get the trophy, so I sent in an answer that I really don't think was right.

Total of numbers = 24

Thu Jun 15, 2006 3:34 pm

I have sum of digits = 26

Too easy :(

Thu Jun 15, 2006 4:46 pm

My sum = 27 after rounding. Knowing me, I probably did something wrong.

Thu Jun 15, 2006 7:34 pm

I have sum of 26 also. And no rounding should be necessary.

Thu Jun 15, 2006 7:48 pm

The sum of my digits was also 26; I got whole numbers for the price of each codestone (no rounding necessary). I can usually get top 250 with the algebra ones if I catch it right when it comes out...

However, 11pm NST is 2am for me; I tried to stay up, but I do have to work in the morning -- I went to bed at about 1:15 last night. There should be a better way to decide who's in the top 250 -- perhaps the clock should start when you actually look at the page. I know that people could cheat by looking at it posted elsewhere (or looking on a side account and solving it on their main). But if people knew they had a decent chance of top 250, they'd be less likely to repost it elsewhere and knock themselves out. And they could make it freezeable to view it on a side and solve it on a main since "it unbalances the game." I know it's not an ideal solution, but it's got to be better than the current system -- most people in Europe are usually asleep when it's released.

Sorry for the gripe; I've gotten the avatar and have a current high-score of 2, so I really shouldn't complain, but I wanted to get on the hs table. Besides, I hate refreshing the page every 10 min. most Wed. evenings waiting for the thing to come out. Mainly, it's just not fair -- almost everything else in NP is semi-time-zone-independent (for example the spacing of the snowager's sleeps allows most people to visit at least once). The other notable exception is Deadly Dice -- I'm not getting up (or staying up) until 3am just for an avvie/NP. I know the release of things on the Altador plot also put certain timezones at a disadvantage, but we don't know yet how the scoring will work for that.

:oops: Okay. Second rant over. Good luck to everyone still solving.

I've found it's usually on the hour... I've tried refreshing every 15 or so, but it's usually out within the first few mins (15 or less) of an hour. (Though I could be wrong, I've only been keeping up with it for a couple months now.)

See, I knew I did something wrong. :P

I have sum of digits of 60 :(
But after going back and working it all out, all four of my totals add up to the original amount of neopoints :)

So, fingers crossed

We were only talking about the Eo Codestone in our measurements, and I'm very sure that you weren't. I hope.

I just got the answer now :(
