How do you feel about the commercials that advertize Neopets? I really don't like the commercials...
"Get your Neopets toy at McDonald's today!"
"The Darkest Faerie for PS2 now in stores!"
"The world of Altador has arrived! Go to Neopets.com!"
If I was an anime chatacter I would have a huge sweat drop.
"Hey, Neopets... Don't you play neopets?"
"What? Me? Oh... well um.. *mumbly trails off*.. "
It's really embarassing for me to see those commercials. It's kind of like someone walking up to you and saying
"Hey, you're that kid that plays with dolls, right?"

Sounds like a very psychological problem. The advertisements portray it as a kid's game, but in essence, that is their target demographic now.
The problem I have with the commercials is the always impending commercialization. NeoPets is whoring itself now to little Timmy and Sally, and I can't help but think that the MTV / Viacom relationship caused it. NeoPets really doesn't need the toys, merchandise, and games to survive as long as the games and on-site advertisements keep going.

it is getting a bit outta hand it was fine when it was just the toys in mcdonalds but now they're advertising everything toys, Trading Cards, the game, and I've even seen ads for the site itself TNT is deffinatly goin too far with this

Putting out ads for merchandise isn't too bad, since it's needed to sell it. Putting out ads for the site itself is insane. there's really no reason to go that far, since the ads for the merchandise will do that for them

I haven't seen any advertisements for Neopets itself, just the McDonald's toys and the Darkest Faerie. There have been a lot of complaints about how Neopets is commercializing but so far it hasn't gotten to the point it's so blatant I'm ready to quit it. I do know some people who have though.
It's sad because IIRC, the site started out more for college/high school level people to use but now it's becoming more kid-oriented, which seems to be the trend with the entertainment industry.

A large amount of commercials are made for America, and in our society most people are dedicated already to work or relationships, so there are three reasons to target children:
1.) They will dedicate more time to a entertainment product because they usually have more time.
2.) It is easier to hook kids.
3.) Children are the future, and like a computer-generated drug, they can hook you for a longer timeframe, as you are growing up with these things.
That's what America is all about: Work and entertainment. That's about it.

I wouldn't have such a huge problem with it if 1) they were targetting more than one demographic, and 2) the commercials weren't so crappy. The Altador Cup commercial looks like something I could have thrown together. And that's anything but a compliment.

I've seen the Altador Cup commercial a few times now, and it's cracked me up every single time.
The Islandberry Cruch cereal is mighty tasty (I hope they come out with a new one), but I really couldn't care less about the toys/ trading cards/magazine etc. I've only ever boughten one piece of merchandise, a Faerie Kougra plushie, and that was because I thought it would have an item code.
Edit to add: I also love the Darkest Faerie video game and they definitely need to put out a new one.

I don't
think they're showing the ads in the UK, at least I haven't seen them. From the sounds of things I'm kind of glad I haven't
On the other hand, it just kind shows how much Neopets stuff we miss out on here in the UK. I've only seen Neopets merchandise for sale in one tiny shop here, and that was pretty limited - everything else I imported from the US. Islandberry Crunch isn't out here as far as I know, and the Darkest Faerie definitely isn't - I should know, I even (briefly) considered having an American Playstation2 imported so I could play the game on it :p - that idea didn't last long though!
