Hacked....?

Thu Jun 08, 2006 3:00 am

I logged into neopets and i got a message, mind you i usually don't get messages that often. This one was intitled: "Your account isn't safe". At first i thought it was just some join my guild but i read further and it said this
Hello, I think your account is endangered. When I went on Neopets then clicked on the news, I was on your account. I don't know how it happened, I was on my account and then it just switched to yours. I have no idea how it happened, or who you are. You have a brown sidebar, you have 80,000 something points, and your main pet is Nova. I did get switched back when I refreshed, though. You might want to change your word and delete cookies.

Mind you, i am currently using the lost desert/quasala sidebar which is brown. And i have currently 86000 np on hand. And my main pet is nova... No one knows my password or anything. So just asking really what should I do now? I held the person's name that send the message anonymous for now, but if you think it will help i will release the name of the person who sent me it. And the person who sent me it, i have no idea of who they are.

Well anyone can see what your main pet is, but i think if they were guessing there REALLY good at it. Maybe its just a glitch? Change your password and use your pin more than ever. Repost it to the bug department too maybe?

Yeah i have pins set on everything. I don't think anything is lost, but i'm sure maybe it's a bug or some glitch. Eitherway does anyone have the link to which i can send a bug report to TNT? Supposedly there has been CG/hackers alot today.

I have heard of this glitch happening a bit lately. You're just puttering along in your account, minding your own business, and then suddenly you're in someone else's account, with their name and pet and NP at the top of the screen. I don't think you should worry, though, because I gather this lasts for just the one refresh (anyone in your account can't go to your bank and withdraw money, or abandon your pets, or send your items elsewhere or anything). I would still report it, though.

You're scaring me!

I hsven't heard of it before but given the number of members on the site, and the sheer size of the site, it doesn't surprise me these glitches occasionally happen.

Take the advice above and change your password. I'd change the pin too just to be safe and definitely report it the bug.

Were you using a public computer?

It might have been the cookies on it. Otherwise, just a glitch

At least whoever got into your account turned out to be the honorable sort of person who warned you. I hope that it doesn't happen to me though. Even if they can't get into my stuff, it's still scary to have someone be in my account, even for a second.

Yea, this happened to me a week ago. One minute, I'm on my SN, the next I'm on some girls from China. Then I refreshed and it was normal again...

This happened to me once to, except on livejournal. I logged into my account and clicked a link to do whatever and all of a sudden it's greeting some username I've never heard of at the top instead of mine. I took a screencap and told a friend about it and tried clicking around a bit (clicking recent entries brought me to their journal, not mine) and after 1-2 clicks I was back in my own account. It was creepy.

Creepy. I think that happened to my brother once.. hm...

Anyway, yeah.. The pin stuff should be used and changed constantly. Logging in and out... otherwise maybe you should report to TNT this issue if not already. They ought to do something about that if it's like a glitch or whatever.

This happened to me a long time ago, one minute I was in my account, then I clicked something and I was in my side account. It's probably because I'd just logged into my main account after being in my side account. I refreshed and it was gone.

The same glitch happened two years ago on Neopets. At least it stops when you refresh the page....

Thu Jun 08, 2006 10:28 pm

The other day while posting on the neoboards, I kept getting a page saying that my account wasnt old enough to view the boards, even though Im 19. I sent that in as a bug report, and the reply I got back said:

Hi,

Thanks for the inquiry you submitted!

Thanks for letting us know. This is a problem with your Internet Service Provider (ISP). This is what happens: When you login to your account, your computer sends your information to your ISP. Your ISP is not refreshing the information, so sometimes you end up with other people''s info.

If you refresh the page, you should be back into your own account. You should write to your ISP and let them know that this is happening, and ask for advice about what to do. There are a few things you can do to help prevent this, but the majority of the responsibility is with your ISP.

Go to the top of your browser where it says "Tools" and then "Internet Options" (in Netscape this is "Edit" and then "Preferences"). Choose to "Clear Temporary Internet files" (in Netscape, choose to clear cache, under "Advanced").

I have no idea how true it is that everyone's ISP is to blame because I dont know how any of that works, but that was what they told me :)
