how is that obtained and what is it for?

I believe it's for Premium members after they've refered a certain amount of people.

..but you only have it while you have premium.

If you cancel, it disappears.

It randomly doubles your np from games. Double np for game of the day = up to 4k if it activates

Nope it just randomly doubles the np you get from a single random game play. I've only seen it double one game once a day, but I haven't been playing as many games as of late. You get it from referring two people to premium. I believe if you cancel premium you lose it, but if you sign up again you get it back, but I'm not sure.
