Bit of Advice? Use or Sell?

Okay, I've been out of the loop with Neopets for a while... I used to play a lot a few years ago but now the holiday season is upon us and I have an oodle of time on my hands (I'm blissfully ignoring the mountains of schoolwork that are looming above me) I've been filling it with playing lots of nicely brightly coloured Games in Neopia... as well as being caught up in Altador...
The problem arises when some passing Aisha gave me a Normal Golden Nerkmid. And I don't know what to do with it!
I am EXTREMELY poor by Neopian standards... and am trying to train my Neopet a little bit so that if I ever need to battle anyone as part of the Altador plot, then I might have a slight chance of beating them (Ha ha ha ha). So do I try and sell the Nerkmid? Or go ahead and use it? And what's the "Street Price" of this little item?

if you search on the shop wizard for an item that you are trying to sell it should give you a rough estimate of what it is worth, it looked around 87,000 to me. it may be an idea to check out the trading post too to see what people are willing to trade for it.
personally, about 'use it or sell it' it all depends whether you are saving for anything. i am saving for a lab map and would sell it instantly but it may be an idea checking out http://www.neoitems.net to see what it does first

I am looking at this two ways. You can 1. Look to the future and sell the nerkmid to make neopoints so you can train your pet. Its safer and you have nothing to lose. OR 2. Play for the moment and use it. If you think that Neopets is something you only play once in a while maybe you should just throw caution to the wind. It might be much more fun to test your luck.

Occasionally (double c double s or double l?) you will get something worth far more than 80k. Sometimes other, better Nerkmids. So... if you want to risk it, have a little fun, I always do.

i don't think anyone mentioned this... but remember that if you use a nerkmid, you get an avatar. i recently bought one just for the avatar, actually. you haven't been on in a while, so i doubt you're a collector, but avatars are a "hot" thing now.
btw... the food i got from the machine wasn't even worth 500NP. so yeah... i paid about 80k for an avatar =p

It usually gives you about 20K with it--or at least it did when I used one a long time ago.
