Greaaat Now All my Accounts Will be Deleted...

Sat Feb 25, 2006 5:49 am

A follow-up from my last post: http://www.pinkpt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24568

Well today I called the premium number so I could cancel it on my premium. I mean why would I keep premium if I can't even get in my own account to use it , right? Well when I asked to cancel the guy on the other line asked me why I wanted to quit premium. I told him that I forgot the password to my account. He then asked me if I tried to get it back with the email thing. I said no and explained my email situation (Read above post for details) Well then he was shocked and said "What!? It wasn't your email address??" and I said "Nope!" and then he told me that he would have to delete my account AND my side accounts.
So basically I'm left with nothing. No accounts, no neopoints, no neopets. Not even a trace of me joining Neopets in the first place. Nada.

This really sucks.

That reeks. :( I mean, I know it's Neopets policy and all, but still, that really reeks.

Geeez... Real sorry. Have they actually been deleted yet?

That would put be of neopets forever. An even longer forever than when my account got frozen.

Why does s/he have to delete all your accounts? Maybe, just maybe, the one with the password problem, but why the side ones too? :o

No, they haven't been deleted yet. I have a certain time period in which they will all be deleted. In a few days I think he said.

Can't you just get your aunt to check her e-mail and forward you the password, or even tell it to you over the phone? If you've explained to her that without it you'll lose your account and she still won't find a way to help... that's pretty mean.

This is why you should always use your own e-mail address. There's no excuse not to have one; they're free! And you should especially use your own address when buying premium Neopets, because you're talking about real money here.

I didn't want him to delete all of my accounts, I just called to cancel premium and he started talking about my email/password subject!

After I cancelled premium I was planning to call my aunt and retrieve my password. But now what's the point. :(

If you got your password before they froze your accounts, maybe you could transfer your pets to a friend's account, then transfer them to a fresh account of your own once TNT's deleted the other accounts and start anew with the same pets?

Just go change your email. You don't even NEED the old email to confirm the change.

And if you don't have your own email... go get one! ;)

Yeah I would get the password and make another account. Then you could try moving all your stuff to the new account. This is why I always write passwords down, the internet is littered with dozens of accounts that I forgot the password too. :(

I thought it was common practice to just have the same password everywhere you go? I've used the same one for nearly a decade and it's never been a problem.

I don't think you guys understand... I can't log into my account.

It's USUALLY not a problem, but if you use a password for something else, like your PPT account, and accidentally give it away there, then they get access to everything you have automatically. I use a password for Neo, a password for my main email, and a third one for everything else.

I have several different passwords I rotate between, so it usually only takes a couple of guesses to remember what I used. A trick I use to make up secure but memorable passwords is to use the first letters of words from favorite quotes or song lyrics. For example, if I were using the beginning of the Gettysburg Address: "Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers set forth on this continent..." my password would be: 4sa7yaofsfotC. Just about impossible to guess, but easy to remember, and quick once you've typed it a few times. This was born of having several passwords at work that have to be changed regularly and can't be similar to previous passwords. Usually even if I forget the password itself, I can remember the quote or song I used and work it out quickly.

Michelle, I've never heard of someone from the premium tech support saying they are going to delete your accounts. My understanding is that they deal with portal/neomail matters, NOT your actual neopets account.

I would call back and ask for a supervisor. Tell that person that the email you used was your aunt's and give them a reason why you used that email (you were too young to have your own email when you first joined Neo, whatever the reason).

I agree that it seems to me that if you have requested the password and it is going to your aunt's email - if it's still a valid email - there's no reason why she couldn't forward the email to you with your information, send her own email to you or give you a call with it. Then it's just a matter of logging in and changing the email to one YOU use.

As far as using the same password for everything? That's a disaster waiting to happen. I've seen this happen to a good RL friend of mine. I use completely different passwords for everything. Yes I have them all written down and yes sometimes it's a pain, but better safer than sorry.
