Sutek's Tomb and no pausing

Has anyone else noticed that after you play for a while (Usually around the 1 hour mark for me), you can no longer pause the game? 
I thought it was related to the 'plzsutekcanihavemoretime' cheat as I usually could pause until I entered that. But today after I screwed up on the first game at about 25000 points and an hour of play, and submitted the points I noticed that immediately I could no longer pause in the second game. 
I am currently stuck at having to wait until the board reshuffles so I can pause.
Any ideas - I submitted it to NeoPets as a bug/error but am wondering if it just me. Yesterday I had nothing clicked but as soon as I tried to move anything it would do the error noise and not allow me to make a move - no message at the top which usually appears when you try an invalid move - just short of what I needed to get to end up with a trophy.

You can only pause three times.

That has happened to me sometimes. I have tried to pause it in the game but when I try to it doesn't work at all.

How can you play so long? You can the plzsutekcanihavemoretime only once right?

Theres not really a trick, just getting good at it. The first few times I played the game, I struggled to get enough points for the avatar. Now, I can sit around for hours playing the same game without using the extra time cheat. When you're on a roll getting a bunch of symbols in a row, the sand in the hourglass will fill back up, giving almost infinite time.

Score-based avatars are never random (except for maybe Cellblock). Once you reach the critical mark, it should instantly be awarded to you.
