Scratchcard costs and jackpots

Mon Jan 23, 2006 9:59 am

I'm saving up my scratchcards that I buy (mostly desert and winter) so that I can scratch them in batches, in hopes of getting lucky multiple times. Most times I get the low-rank cards, but recently I got my third Geb Gajillionaire... which got me thinking. usually you can't see the jackpot (for a particular tpe of card set) until you start scratching a card... but has someone been tracking it? Also, in case I want to sell a card or two, the might give some lucky smurf a jackpot, I would want to wait until the jackpot's high which would raise the demand of the cards (hopefully).

Just thought I'd point this out: if you were thinking of scratching them all on the same day, you can only scratch 5 Lost Desert Scratchcards a day. Dunno why.

Well, yes, I knew that... but thanks for reminding other people who may not have.

The jackpot changes so often that the scratchcard market doesn't really seem to change with it. Maybe one or two people might notice that the jackpot looks a bit more attractive on a particular day, but it's not a massive thing.

I'm not really sure how you'd track it. Maybe you could start scratching a card and keep checking on the jackpot every now and then without finishing the card? It seems like far more trouble than it's worth, though.

Yes and no. I remember a time quite a while ago when the jackpot at Haunted Scratchcards was at 20 million. The extremely expensive ones, which normally go a lot lower, were selling like wildfire for millions each. However, the winter and desert ones fluctuate pretty rapidly, so they don't change price much.

I have kept track a couple of times and I come out ahead selling my scratchcards. Maybe I am just unlucky.

I'm tracking the results just for grins. Most cards you'ld buy have been devalued enough, except for the chance of getting a prize or value back.
