Scam alert, be careful in shops

Sun Jan 22, 2006 3:42 am

I came across this on Premium Charter and wanted to repost here for fellow PPTers' benefit.

It seems that a person or group of people have figured out a snippet of coding to make users autobuy overpriced junk items if they have enough np on hand, the minute anyone visits the shop. They attract wiz snipers by stocking bargain items like bottled faeries and codestones. So use discretion if you restock using the shop wizard. Don't carry large amounts of np on hand.

This has all been reported to TNT, so hopefully it'll be taken care of soon.

Ah, thanks :D I never carry over 5k though (unless im looking to RE labmaps or am on a quest), but this may help others

What!? After one problem, there's another problem! :x

Thanks for the info. Will be careful since I train my pets daily. Just want to know, can I get out of the shop fast enough before I autobuy anything? Does pressing the Back button work?

I have no idea, I'm just passing on information I heard. I'd assume not, you're probably screwed the minute the shop loads. :(

Thanks for the headsup. :D I need to lower how much NP I carry on hand then.

Gathering from people who are looking at the code that was taken from the user's shop, this seems to be true. My friend who looked at the code said it requires ActiveX to trigger it and appears only to work in IE. Firefox and Opera are good alternatives.

Would be a good idea to have few np on hand when going into user shops, and keep an eye on your cash to make sure it isn't disappearing without you clicking on an item. And of course report a shop immediately if you think you've spotted this scam.

Someone had a brilliant idea, just keep 49 items in your inventory when sniping :D

I think the one shop that was in question on the chater boards no longer exists, maybe TNT is on top of this already.

Yet another reason to block javascript and activex, and of course to travel with empty pockets. Thanks for the alert!

I have the habit of dropping my money in the bank as soon as I hit 1K, so I never have more than that on hand.

It looks like the shop's description was cleared. Though I'd personally feel a lot better if the account was frozen. But whatever.

I do that too. :) More to avoid evil np-stealing random events than anything else, but it's a good precaution for this situation too.

You're welcome, everyone. xD Stay safe.

Me three. I don't like the event that takes 5000 away. I ended up with both of those long ago and decided I'd not have anything over 1000 unless I'm planing to buy something.

Now with this whole stupid thing going around along with the cg, I'm afraid of going shoping to get rid of the faerie quest I got just this week. :x

Well, keeping 1k or less out will not stop the bad RE's - you'll just have negative np on hand. I've had negative np from things like the ghosts, etc. And a few people I've talked to have gotten the crying kad taking 5k when they had less than that out. It will help with things like the tax beast (unless you're trying for high score table).

As to the shop thing - I am still not certain if this is just something that would affect IE or not. I know in FF alot of the normal shockwave games (like on their site) don't work right, but the flash and shockwave does work for Neo on FF. And that does use active x.

From the people who've had this happen (I have no confirmation of what browser they used), this taking of np happens as soon as you go to the shop -- you don't have to click anything.

I too miss trying to wiz snipe - I just miss shopping from user shops for things I need, like codestones, stuff for my neohome, etc. But I'm just not taking any chances regardless of my browser.

Disabling js I don't know if it's ok or not on the site. I know from other people who regularly rs that you can't have js disabled for that - someone was frozen for rs'ing with js disabled. Reason was an unfair advantage.

Disabling active x? Most of the site's in flash now - maps, etc. so I'm not sure, even if you have your preference set to html, if you'd be able to navigate around well. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to play any flash games if that's something you do without having to go in and enable things.

Me four!

But seriously... I wish these stupid scammers would just STOP! Even for like a week or something! Because its honestly getting annoying to not be able to go through the site without being freaked out that my account is going to be hacked or stolen from or something! :x

Wow, with irritating :) :) :) :) making everyone treding on eggshells, I'm glad I got hit with something that just blocks the whole site. I haven't been on since early December and wonder if I'll be able to get back before Neo goes down the drain. I can see it happening, if they don't stop this kind of thing I know I'd get a little more than irritated and leave.

lol Yeah, I should have specified. I do it to avoid getting burned by Sloth and the Tax Beast. :)
