Autobuyers

Wed Jul 07, 2004 8:48 am

After reading all those threads about people being wrongly frozen because they used(supposedly)autobuyers, I wonder if there is such a thing as a cookie that:
1)Has properties like that of spyware
2)Autobuys items

No, there isn't, because cookies don't actually DO anything. They just store login information...

IMO, the most likely cause for confusion is that people with autobuyers are on the same ISP as normal users (not that unlikely, all other things being equal, since there are only about 15 common ISPs with high access speeds). The cheaters will autobuy a few things, then disconnect their internet connections, freeing the IP address that they were using. TNT will see that someone with this IP address was autobuying, and assume that the next account that logs on from that IP (say, John Q. Neopian, an honest and rule-abiding pet owner) is owned by the same person.

So they'll do a mass freeze for that IP address, for all accounts off of it for the last few days. You take out some good cells with the cancer, and it's a sacrifice they're willing to make since they're so overworked.

That's my guess, anyway.

Shapu, I would say that is a very good, educated guess re: the whole IP thing. I've seen cases where some innocent people were frozen/IP banned because their IP was the same or very close (like 1 or 2 numbers off) of someone who was cheating.

The only other thing that I can think of in this particular case - innocent people being frozen for using an ab is the day that the codes were changed. A few people have said they were frozen for using an ab on that day. My only guess in that case is that some of the shops didn't have the new code in place, people bought from the few shops that weren't updated, hence were using the old code. And that would trigger the bots even though the person did nothing wrong.

I actually think when TNT decided to do the mass ab freezing and changed the codes that they should have simply not restocked any of the shops until every single shop had the new code in place.

well...

actually i think it might b spyware. one of the ppl i know that was frozen wrongfully for that and so he went throughtout his whole comp lookin for what it might of been. all he could find was a spyware. i think we need to contact neopets about it. a friend of mine sent a bug report but i doubt just one will do anything.

Spyware is very common and I doubt it could get you confused with an AB...

autobuyer

i just don't know what else it could b. i never used an autobuyer in my life and i just want my account back so much. i worked so hard on that account over my 3 years there. i tried so many things like forms, my friend sent bug reports, gonna send a snail mail to them, and i emailed william like others have suggested.

now they froze my friend's account. she has been giving me updates bout things. they froze her for the same thing just today. i KNOW she doesn't have an autobuyer. Neopets is going downhill. They need to check into things b4 they freeze ppl. :x :x :x
