Some newbie questions :p

Mon Jan 09, 2006 4:18 am

How long does it take to get a good battle pet if you train atleast 2 - 4 times a day.

And what is considered good? :p Like 100+ or 200+ stats?

Is defence and agility sort of useless compared to strength?

Should I give up my current pet thats around 60s for the stats but I dont really like the name so I wanna start a new pet >.>

I forgot how long it takes to train at the schools but I think it is 4 hours so youd have to come back every 4 hours to put in another course. And I am not to sure about the stats so some else can help! :D

Well, good is subjective. If you want to be one of the top few battlers in Neopia, then a few years. If you just want to have some fun battling, you can get there in a few months/weeks. (On the other hand, I really like strategizing ways to win against challengers with better stats than my less-trained pets.)

Defense is pretty important. I'd been neglecting it, and I'm paying the price now. Most people won't train it as high as strength or hp, but you should train to the first couple of boosts. Don't bother to train agility, it's not worth it.

As for your last question--well, it's your call. If you want to start over, go for it. If you don't want to put your pet and all your hard work in the pound, you can always keep both.

As far as 'good", the higher the numbers the better. I didn't start to really see a difference in the BD until I got the 125 boosts.

definitely train defence - I try to equal train. The defence boosts can be just as important as strength and endurance.

I wish I had trained agility when it was cheaper. Yes, they're for higher level pets and pets with higher intelligence, but there are BD items that make the agility training and reading to your pet worth it.

And i forgot to ask..

Wheres the best to place to train under level 40. What are the advantages of each?

The mystery island training school i kno is faster..

But are there any money differences or bonus stat differences?

Hmm, well yes, mystery island is faster than krawk island. I guess the best thing to do is check the shop wizard for prices of codestones and dubloons. I think 1 and 2 dubloon coins are about the same price and may be cheaper for lower level training. Bonuses? I would guess that the academy does give them too.

The only time I ever use the academy is for free pet training day (for my non-battling pets).

I've found that you should use Krawk Island for lvls. 1-20, and Mystery Island after that. It has been cheaper ever since the lost tomb opened up, giving another source of codestones. Seriously, some codestones only sell for 2500 now. Five dubloon coins sell for about 9K in my experience.

Is there a difference in how much you can train stats between the academy and training school? Also, how does training relate to level? Is it capped at 2x level?

I have a related question: what are "level boosts?" How do they affect your pet's performance in the BD?

Fri Jan 13, 2006 9:22 pm

Training of all stats is capped at 2x level at the Academy.

Training of all stats but HP is capped at 2x level at the Island School. HPs are capped at 3x training there. (Or so I've heard. Last time I tried it there appeared to be no cap, but that was a while ago.)

VERY IMPORTANT: Althoguh you CAN train your pet to 3x level in HP at the school, once your HP are higher than 2x level, you won't be able to train anything else BUT HP until you've raised your level again. (ie, it's not just that you can't train strength, etc. to more than 2x level, it's that you can't train strength, etc. if ANY stat is more than 2x level.

So if you're going to train to 3x level, do it after you've trained everything else to right before the edge of the next price bracket.

The Academy is slower, but cheaper for pets of under level 21.

Yes, the Academy gives bonuses, too.

As for defense and movement: Hard to say. I'm training for the 200 strength boost now (well, actually I'm planning on training to 160 strength -- the edge of the next price increase -- and then labbing my HP up to 200. Then I'll train strength to 200.)

My current plan is to train defense to 160, then leave it for awhile. I'm not sure I plan to train defense to 200 and am pretty sure I'm not training it past that. I just don't use enough defensive items to make it worthwhile, although maybe I will someday.

Dunno what to tell you about movement. Mine is still at 50 and I'm not sure it's worth it to me to train something that may never be useful except for a few specialized BD items I can't afford.

What kind of items depend on agility and intelligence?

Mon Jan 30, 2006 2:38 am

How long it takes depends on what you want to train to and your budget.

If you say trained HP, strength, defence and level once a day each at the end of 2 years you would have about 750 HP and the 700 strength and defense boosts. The thing though is that as you go up and level training takes longer and you can't get 4 points a day.

I've been training for 3 years. I did take off about 6 months once. I also use the lab ray and kitchen quests. I have a little over 800 HP and 698 strength and 345 defence. If I was doing it against I would train defence evenly with strength.

A few pointers:

Scratch 5 terror trove cards a day to keep your levels up.

Have only 1 pet so all quests go to your battle pet

Try to do your Kitchen quests each day.

On the agility and intelligence issue a lot of the tunics and robes require them. I have the heavy robe of thievery which is a 100% stealer but you need a certain amount of ability (don't remember what it is). I also used to have the heavy blue tunic which requires 1000 intelligence at which point it acts as a 100% freezer with some defence.
