3n + 3r = 4k
2u + o = 108
5d + 2c = 6m
2u + 3r= 10m
10b - L = 8m
3k - 4i = 2i
3n - 3o = c
2o + 3c = 33d
3n - 7d = 10m
2d + 2e = 3b
9n - 9r = 8i
6b + 3c = 14m
4y - 2m = 6u

L + e + n + n + y + c + o + n + u + n + d + r + u + m = ???

I HATE math!

Why are LC's always math questions?! :x

*groan* yet another one I have to skip out on. *kicks LC after working on it for half an hour figuring out NOTHING!*

D'oh! This would be a lot easier if I knew whether the letter solutions were limited to positive whole numbers or if they could be, well, any number.

Fri Jan 06, 2006 3:54 am

The answer I got was not limited to just whole numbers. By the way, the way I solved it, most of the time it took was making sure that I had all the numbers right, it really isnt very hard if you know how to use linear algebra.

Fri Jan 06, 2006 3:55 am

I think it might be simple since I working on my theory right now but I could be totally wrong too.

It gets worse when you try and solve it - stupid fractions

It's not the linear algebra that's throwing me, but the dozen or so unknown variables. :P

Math is not my best subject, and I can tell this is going to involve much more effort than I'm willing to put in, so I think I'll leave this particular LC alone. Kudos to whoever tackles this beast.

I've come to terms with the fact that I cannot do math for the life of me. I've never been good at it. Numbers just make me dizzy.. And thus, I'm not even going to try. However, I will cheer all of you on. :)

I'm completely stumped. The farthest I could get was that n = 2r. And that is also a hint (although it didn't help me much.)

Fri Jan 06, 2006 4:29 am

i solved it and then verified it using MATLAB. It is a number whose last 2 digits repeat and the sum of of the digits of this number is prime. Okay that should let you know if you got the answer. Good Luck!

Just to let you all know that not everyone has the same set of numbers - but the answers will be the same.

Fri Jan 06, 2006 4:48 am

Good thing too. They are finally cutting down on cheating.

Really? Wow.

And I got the same thing as you neomania. :D But I triple checked it anyway just to make sure. A ti-89 can come in very handy. :P

My system of equations was:

8k - 5n = 8r
3u + 2o = 189
5d + 2c = 6m
5L + 4m = 23b
3r - m = 3u
3k - 4i = 2i
3n - 3o = c
o - c = 4d
8i + 9r = 9n
10m + 7d = 3n
4d + 4e = 6b
4y - 6u = 2m
6b + 3c = 14m

It seems my answer is the same as neomania's.

Excellent LC this week! Kudos to TNT!

WOOT! Being a major in mathematics sure does have it's up side!!!! Bet I didn't get it in time for the avi though :(
