The Return of the Return of Dr. Sloth

Thu Dec 29, 2005 6:56 am

Am I the only one jumping for joy at this new (beta) game? I love vertical scrollers and positively hate Pteri Attach, even the new one. All they did with the new one is pretty up the graphics.

TRoTRoDS though is much better. It sticks to a truer version of vertical scrolling gameplay. You vs other ships that fire back + floating debris. I think the result is fabulous. The only thing missing, in my opinion, is a projectile type power up, a la the heat seaking missiles of the Raiden games.

My only question is, does anyone else think this game is too easy? On my second attempt playing the game, I scored 1.3 billion. Yes, billion. I realize this is a high-scoring game (1np per 100k), but that's still a 13k np game. Am I just better at these sort of games than I think? Anyone else with premium have an opinion?

All the beta games I've played have been a lot easier than the final released version. Caves and corridors was that way, and for one day the released version was just as easy. I like this game the way it is, so maybe they'll just reduce the payout some more for this one too.

I couldn't get passed level 3.
what about you?

OK wow.

I just scored 6.8 billion. :o

I got to the final level (6), then was wiped out on the second wave. Level 5 is by far my favorite, and I have to say the rank 4 gun rocks hard. I can't wait till this is released. Maybe I can finally get a high score! Level 4 (Meridellia) was by far the hardest (except for the last, of course). Kill those ground guns FAST. Also, your 'rank' going into the final level is 'Overlord.' I was highly amused by this.

SNak Edit: Your picture is a bit too large for the forum, i've changed it to a link instead.

You can only score a maximum of 1000 NP on any flash game, so it doesn't really help.

The point is that games will usually end up taking a decent amount of time to earn the 1000 np...

I have no clue how long this game takes, though.

It doesn't take long to earn the necessary 250M points. You can usually get it halfway through the second level. It's fun to see how far you can go, however. I wish they had an "End Game" button, because then is I wasn't in the mood for it, I could quit with my 1000 NP without having to kill myself 5 times.

Those of you who gave up on this game because it was too hard, I recommend giving it another go. They've "tweaked" it, so now there are more asteroids to kill. Also, I think they've made it a little easier somehow(maybe slowed it down, or added more little health/shield pickups).

A few things to note:
--If you're out of shield defense, you'll only see little health pickups until your health is full. Then you'll see shield pickups until your shield is at full. So, I'm pretty sure(but not positive, as I STILL can't see the shield bar or my life count) you can only get extra lives when your shields and health are full.
--Weapon upgrades do not appear randomly. They only appear after you've died on the second level or above, when you have stronger-than-basic weapons, and then only to the level of the last weapons upgrade you recieved. So, if you die in Meridellia(4th level? Two weapons upgrades up there), you'll see weapons pickups. If you miss them, more will come by, but only until you've reached the second upgrde.

I disagree with you moongewl. I think that they made it harder (well, easier to get the 1000 np, but harder to get a high score). Yes, there are more asteroids, but the chomby fighters and the destroyer ships (i think, forgot what they were called) in the 5th level now have 2x the health. I have not been able to get anywhere near 100bil points, whereas when it first came out 200bil came easily.

Hmm...I'm not an excellent gamer(as my high score list will attest), so I've only made it to the 5th level maybe twice. I guess they made the easy levels easier and the hard levels harder.
