is it allowed?

Yep
I know, it's a little confusing because if you want to be really technical it is a game, you do get something for turning the 9 pieces in, but it is allowed.

So I would be allowed to buy the pieces on my main and send them to my side? what would I do with the things I won from completing the map?

I'm pretty sure you only gain NP, and access to the lab map.
It's fine for you to send NP/items from your main to your side account, but not the other way around.

so what would I do with the NP I get from the map on my side? leave them there? am I allowed to buy things for that account, like food and books?

keep the np you get in that account - sending np to your main is a no-no. Plus, it's nice to have a little on the lab account for adoption fees, things like that. That's what I did - I have a lab account and I buy omelettes on my main and send them over to that account. The np I got from the lab map I just put in the bank and use it as needed.
Now, if you get any items (say from a RE), those you can send to your main, as you're not allowed to have a shop or sell things on side accounts. I believe that was in a recent editorial in the NT.
