Neofriend Etiquette

Wed Dec 21, 2005 3:57 pm

Hello, I'm new, both to Neopets and to this forum. Was wondering if you guys could answer a question I have about Neofriends?

Today, I just noticed that I have received two neofriend requests from ppl I have never met, nope, not even electronically through boards. Is this regular? Do ppl just pick out neofriends randomly?

Now, I would like to have more neofriends, but it just struck me as strange... o_O

Yes, that's very normal. Some people just friend random users to get more neofriends. I think it's a bit odd, but to each their own. lol When I get a random neofriend request, I usually neomail them back asking if I know them (incase they are from PPT and I just didn't recognize them). If it's truly a random request, then I apologize and simply say that I do not neofriend people I do not know. :)

Also, welcome to PPT!

Welcome :)

Some people seem to think that status in neopia is determined by how many neofriends you have, they just want great big long lists of them. I have about 5 billion that I have no idea who they are. I tend to just leave them pending.

Oic... well thanks guys for sharing that with me. :)

I was just a bit worried you know, cos I've been reading so many stories about scammers and hackers. Not that I have that much to steal, just a bunch of chocolate :P

I get them fairly often. usally when my art gets in the ag, or ranks good in the BC. Then people will mail me like like 'NF ktnx?' and freind me xD

Sometimes the request is an accident; a misplaced click. You also get a neomail request from every new account created that you refered. It's odd but easily ignored.

I like basing my 'random' requests on two things: 1) like Jasu said, neomail them back, that is how I got most of mine, and/or 2) based on the user lookup. If they have a nice looking lookup and seem to be on the level, then they get in. It is a little shallow but if you say you're from here, I'll easily accept you.

Have you won the lottery or any trophies? If you have you will immediately be saturated by neofriend requests.

oh boy... it gets worse as you get older! (on neopets, that is)

my account im using now is 3 & 1/2 years old... which probably gets people interested in my account... and then of course, you build up trophies and stuff from wars... and your pets get better over time.... now, I get at least 5 neofriend requests daily from people ive never even heard of or talked to on neopets.... it stinks when leave for a week or something.... and then come back and have to get rid of 30 friend requests! ugh. But yeah, you can prevent it by changing your settings, but then the people you DO care about cant try to be your neofriend... so... yeah. Its wierd... but... you kind of have to deal with it.

I used to have neofriend requests blocked, but then I noticed that a lot of people had nasty little messages in their lookups saying don't ask to make me a neofriend unless you KNOW me.

Screw that. So I now accept all neofriends requests, no matter how new or dodgy the account.

I'm like the town drunk of neopets. I'll be anybody's friend, just ask. I think I get about ten neofriend requests a day. I just accept them all. If it makes someone feel special, then more power to 'em. Just because you are my neofriend doesn't mean you're going to get free stuff or that I'm going to make you a lookup or anything.

Hell, I had less than 3,000 NP to my name when I logged on this morning. Anything you get from me is going to be a tombola booby prize, or something I fished up out of the bottom of maraqua.

Of course the disadvantage is that I now have something like 3,000 neofriends. The ones who are actual people I actually know from real life I made into VIPs.

Anyways...

You can accept neofriends or you can decline to have them. They don't get a notice or anything if you don't accept, but if you do, on their neofriend list it will say "accepted." I keep hoping that one day there will be an avatar for having 1000+ neofriends, and I'll already be set. ;)

Tell me about it.

People who are requesting to be your NeoFriend will be displayed here. You have 26 requests pending.

I have no idea who any of them are >.>

If that ever gets enacted, we should all just neofriend each other and make one giant neofriend network so powerful TNT will have to take away the avatar and apologize for all the trouble :P Thinks. On second thought, that would be a good thing. I've always wanted to be a revolutionary.

Wow, I feel rather lucky. I don't get so many Neofriend requests, I just get a lot of random neomails. The usual guild invites, but I've had ones about people liking my pets, some jealous of them (eh?), and a few about how to make their userlookups pretty. Mine isn't pretty at all, but it has been changed a bit. Haha.

But not many neofriend requests.. quite amazing how many some of you get!

I think I've got maybe 20 neofriends max...and I've been playing for a few years. But then again, the people who are my neofriends are mostly offline friends of mine, who I share an addiction of Neopets with.

:)

Does it? Mine is 31 months about two and a half years, but my random requests seam to have dried up...When ever I do get a random request I just send them a neomail asking why they want to be my friend, magically they requests disappear. I figure they just mis-typed a name.
