neomail?

Mon Jul 05, 2004 10:17 pm

sorry if this has already been posted...but what is this?
http://www.neomail.com
is neopets going email provider?!

Mon Jul 05, 2004 10:22 pm

Possibly, that would be cool! Although, it wouldn't be able to be mailto:katie@neopets.com because people would use it to scam....

Mon Jul 05, 2004 10:33 pm

some people already have it :(
I'm a beta tester for the portal, but I want to try the mail too

I'm not sure how exactly this is going to work, as far as what the @ will be, because I agree with Twinkly, having a mailto:name@neopets.com or even neomail.com could lead to even more mail scamming.

From what I read awhile ago, there was (don't know if this is still true) supposed to be 2 different email options, a regular one and a "premium" (which I would guess means for pay) email option.

Guess we'll all find out once this is released!

From what I've read from Neo-collectors, the address is mailto:username@Neomail.com and it is a completely paid-only service.

The article is here

I tried to register for that - it took the charge three times off my (edit: bank) account and didn't even sign me up.

Just the usual service from tnt then!

Tue Jul 06, 2004 7:40 pm

Where does it say that?
The quote, not the free part.

Here's what the paragraph on the front page says:

NeopetsĀ® is the greatest Virtual Pet Site on the Internet. With your help, we have built a community of over 70 million virtual pet owners across the world! Neopets has many things to offer including over 160 games, trading, auctions, greetings, messaging, and much much more. Best of all, it's completely FREE!

It comes from the article I linked above.

I strongly urge all users to carefully examine the privacy and terms policies before signing up for this email service. Basically it says that they have the right to use your information in any way they see fit, including selling the user lists (translate: more email spam in your boxes.) The actual ISP host, Velocity.com, has very different privacy policies than does Neopets.com. I'm rather shocked that Neo isn't pointing this out to potential users..... :o

Well, in that respect it's kind of like that glophone. You have to read the very fine print on that regarding privacy and their terms - there's something in there that basically says they can use your computer resources, plus that one takes up alot of room and I've heard people have had a very difficult time trying to uninstall it.
