Proof that even older players can have trouble...

Tue Nov 22, 2005 1:43 am

Alright, I've been away from Neopets for a while now, and recently started a new account, starting over. I got my Newbie pack and everything, and got several items listed as (No Trade). I can't equip the petpets marked as such, I can't do ANYTHING with them. I guessed that it means you can't trade them, but I can't even equip them! Help!

(Ok, I feel dumb now, since I'm a mod--I'm supposed to be EXPERIENCED!!)

Neopets just hasn't coded them properly. They'll fix themselves after Neo prods their coders to fix it

actually, no reason to feel dumb... they havent done anything with them yet.

Theyve said that they forgot to do something with them, and they will take care of them eventually... but they released them and forgot to make them usuable... so... dont worry, its their fault, not yours. :)

hi Robin :)

A few people have been confused about these odd origami-looking petpets, and I don't know of anyone who's been able to equip them to a pet. What most are doing is either putting them in a gallery or just putting them in their sdb. Maybe at some point they will either be changed into real petpets or you'll be able to equip/sell/trade them as is.

I wish people could sell them. They're totally cute in a weird sort of way.

If you got the starter pb, I guess just put them in your sdb. If nothing else, should your poor pet get a random event that turns them baby (if you don't like baby pets) or invisible, you can at least paint them a plain color.

This sounds like the glitch described in the Neopian Times editorial this week:

I just made this account, and when I got my newbie pack I got these two things called a Ditsy and a Liobits. It said they were cardboard petpets, but when I tried to give one to my pet it said that it wasn't an option for that item. Is this a glitch or can you just not do anything with them? ~ saphira44619
Oopsy! Totally our bad, man. Totally. It's fixed now.

So allegedly it's been fixed -- if it's still not working for you, sounds like it's not as fixed as they thought. I'd send them a bug report. You're supposed to be able to give them to your pets.

Thanks, I was starting to get worried :) I miss the old days, when Neopia was simple, ad-free fun...*sighs*

I agree on the sending in a bug report thing seeing as it apparently has not been fixed ^^ It may very well though be fixed at some point this week, often when tnt have something to fix they wait until a certain day and fix a bunch of things at once. Most likely though they have indeed forgotten or not done it correctly.

Mind you, I'm still miffed that they are untradeable. I mean the starter pbs are fair enough as they do *exactly* the same as the plain pbs anyone can buy, but it seems very mean to have four petpets that older players have no hope of getting. At the very least they could have made them very low rarity and available to buy as well as free in starter packs. Or give older players a starter pack upgrade whenever they add something new.

*walks off grumbling* :P

those newbie packs are becoming quite the pack! food, toys, petpets and paintbrushes! holy moly! how many petpets did you get? are you still getting the starter paint brushes?

I very much agree. I think they neglect the older players a little too much and to have a new "type" of petpet that is completely unavailable to us just seems like a slap we don't deserve. I understand the reason for making them untradable (to keep people from starting a bunch of accounts just to get them,) but I just don't see the point in giving them in Newbie Packs at all.

Whatever happened to just giving newbies "newbie" items? A book, a toy, a couple of foods and maybe a free training session per pet would get them started well enough.

A new account has likely just created a pet and gotten to choose from the basic colors anyway. Choosing from basic colors should be easy enough from the pound as well, as it is usually flooded with basic colored pets. I see no need for a "starter" PB.

They've promised some type of reward for older accounts before. I know we have the increased bet amount on Food Club, but other than that, what is there to reward long time players? A new "type" of petpet, even if untradable, would have been a nice item to put in a "Long Time Player Pack" IMHO. It would probably be much more appreciated there as well.

*sigh*
But I suppose I'm just jealous! :P

I don't know about anyone, but I'd like it if TNT were to relase "oldbie" packs. ;)

Tue Nov 22, 2005 5:43 am

I quite agree especially if the item(s) are untradeable unsellable

Tue Nov 22, 2005 5:44 am

it'd definitely be an incentive to keep playing if you were started to become a bit bored or fed up with it all...

How would we define 'oldbie'? A yearly gift based on how long you have been a member given on Neopets' b-day? Or just a yearly treat on the day that you joined with better prizes going to people who have been playing longer?

I like the idea of a yearly gift pack on the anniversary of your account. It seems it would be a very appropriate time to celebrate. I wouldn't mind a sidebar for that event either. ;)

I think Long Time Player is better than "oldbie" ... heh, "pro-bie" or "pwnbie" or .... "leetbie" or ....

I vote for "Ex-bie"! EX is for experience, but also an ex newbie.

Well, premium users get a space faerie scratchcard every month. I think active players should get a monthly gift, like a cheapy job coupon, lottery, or a special scratchcard game. It would be cool.

I REALLY like the idea of Newbie Packs having a booklet of untradable coupons like 'free training' for one training session, "free spin' on the wheel of excitement, or 'free wish' at the wishing well. It would help them explore the world of neopets to collect on the coupons. Now THAT is a good idea. Not newbie paintbrushes or exclusive pets. Geez!
