Whack a Ghost

Fri Oct 28, 2005 10:16 pm

So I saw somewhere that there's a new game coming out soon, it's in premium beta testing now. It works as follows:

There are 9 spots, 3 rows by 3 columns. You use the number pad, and hit the place where the ghost comes up. Pretty simple. Dunno if it gets more complex or not.

Anyway, this game is a complete ripoff of Tontie, from http://www.eyezmaze.com/tontie/v1/. Tontie is an excellent game, that I play every once in a while (and my mom's addicted to, heh :P). It's also incredibly hard--after months of play, I finally managed to get to the final level, and then watched in shock as my 20some continues all vanished in the space of a few minutes.

So I wonder if the Neopets game is as well-made and as challenging as Tontie? Has anyone else played them, and can offer any discussion?

I think this should be in the unreleased thread, but still...it sounds cool! Being an avid Tontie fan myself,Ihope it can live up.

Most games these days are complete ripoffs, cos its quite rare to bring out an original game these days, and still be enjoyable ;)

Well as far as I know, Tontie was original ;)

And I agree that it's hard to come up with original games, but Neopets is a multi-hundred-million dollar company, surely they can manage a few. Besides, most of the games I've found really fun recently have been completely original: Tontie, Planarity, Grow (by the same person as Tontie).. some originality would attract people (especially since you don't have to be signed up to play games).

About the unreleased thread, I can't tell if this belongs there or not (since it doesn't have any rules...) since this is meant to actually discuss a particular thing, rather than just say "look what I found!"..... so I'll just leave it up to a mod :)

It sounds like a remake of whack a beast. I sorta like that game.

Little enough makes it to the games strategy forum anyways...

Game sounds simple and interesting... too lazy to check the "real" game out :-p

It seems to be released now.

It's sort of cute. I've never played this Tontie game or Whack-a-beast so I'm not sure how similar they are.

However, I suck at it and the payout is not all that great.

I wonder if this is only going to be out over Halloween?

Man this is a hard game to play on a laptop >.>

The sounds are very frightening but there is a nice *trick* that doesnt use programs to counter when it says 'the keypad has changed', and it follows the rules. ;)

That would put me in second place, with a gold trophy. If they don't review it soon, I'm gonna be mad! :x

(They said that for the first score I sent, too, a 990. That one would barely put me in the top 50...)

I really wish this game had more levels, it's WAAY too easy now. I beat it the first time I played, and now I'm up to 3 for 3. It's just playing it perfectly that I need to do, since you get more coins that way. And I nearly did it with the 1197.

I didn't like it when they said the keypad rotated, they didn't mention how it rotated, I managed to lose all my lifes on that level.

Yay! :)

Funny, though, as I was going to take the screenshot, they released a bunch more scores, pushing me down to 9th and bronze trophy... but I already got gold! :P

Look over on the right side, it'll have a rotated keypad. If 9 is in the top right, that means you press 9 to hit the top right (NOT the top right one to hit where 9 normally is... that confused me a bit.)

Basically, for the first level rotate your keyboard counter-clockwise (so your arm has to reach over it to get to the number pad), for the second part put it back to normal (because it's FLIPPED from the normal, NOT ROTATED! Sheesh tnt, get them straight!) And you'll have to do the flipping mentally, the third part it's back to rotated, but rotate your keyboard the other way, and on the very last level it's just normal.

Hope that helps :)

Hmm, i'm wondering if computer speed factors into the game. I just finished the game with about 940 points. Even with the missed ghosts/coins and all that brings me to around 1000 points :/
