Verrrrry disturbing popup

Thu Oct 27, 2005 2:08 pm

This is not the first time this popup has come up for me while being on neopets. And when it pops up, the bottom-page ad is always blank. This time I decided to take a screenie.

For shame, TNT. For shame. Image

Whoa. It's not just shame on TNT. Parents are going to ban Neopets once they find that it's a portal to porn. It's bad business for a website aimed at teens and pre-teens.

You need to report it to TNT immediately and they will remove the offending popup asap

Already have. But they haven't removed it. As I said, this isn't the first time this particular popup has come up. The first time was a couple months ago, and it's happened several times since then. As you can see, they haven't removed it.

Sad that ethics have been overshadowed by financial gain.

That right there is why these damnation of ad's should be banned and gotten rid of all together.

What ever happened to memebers signing up with sites and getting free items in return? Or Battledome movies, or special abilites???

Really, sometimes the original way is THE BEST way...

I'm hearing rumors that this might be what's causing the glitches on the junior accounts today. Makes sense, I wonder if it's true.

They really should just stick to ads in games... they get more response that way anyway. I'd rather have a gameroom full of ads than popups and banner ads.

I have had a problem with this popup also. I reminded neopets that the account it was popping up on belonged to an eight year old child and nothing has happened. I also went to the website for the popup and let them know they were advertising on a children's site but I received only a standard automated reply from their tech support telling me they would answer my question as soon as possible.

If it doesn't dissapear soon I'm considering turning the information over to my local authorities. My child is no pristene angel but I kept quiet with the birth control ads and I kept quiet for the singles website but the "real sex" one is over the top.

Oh, and his account is labeled as a neopets junior account and the popup came up on his computer...not mine or while I have been under my adult account.

I guess Adam and Donna really did sell out when they let Viacom take over.

:o :x :(

I'm afraid those PORN ads will be the death of Neopets.

Yeah, I ve seen that too. Ive also seen an add with a ciggerette in it. I mean, whats this suppost to teach kids? ''SMOKING IS COOL! I seen it on neopets!''

I know they have their own advertising team working on getting ads but I'm not sure I understand how these ads get through in the first place. I would think that with them being a million dollar corporation that they could afford a side server where they can store all the ad images (I think they have a little one anyway). That way everything is prescreened and appropriate. Letting anyone link whatever ad from random servers for x amount of dollars is just asking for trouble.

EDIT: Typo

Thats very true. Thats the reason I got ad block for firefox.

thats outright frightening. my nephew Jari plays and he is nine and I have seen several disturbing ad's that popped up on him in the past and its no fun task trying to explain those ones at all so I really hope they remove this one

Another point

Also I failed to mention that the pop-up ads are actually getting through some rahter heavy duty pop-up blockers and have managed to thwart even the kid minder software installed on my computer and the library system here in Kentucky's adware.

So, even with the filters engaged and the adware installed the porn and other ads are getting through thanks to Neopets. I'm not software savvy enough to understand why but I would assume they are not labeling or coding the actual ads to are what they are.

What's next...Ron Jeremy informercials? Viagra samples for each new neopets referral?

NOTE: I am not saying there is anything wrong with the porn industry or the like but having it advertised on a clearly marketed to children site is rather disgusting and proves yet another corporate America sucks point.
