Petpet lab and avatars

If I have an aged petpet, and it turns into some other petpet that has an aged avatar, will I get the avatar? Eg, from 100 day old snowbunny to 100 day old slog (or something like that 
)

You should. 
As long as the petpet is attached to your pet, it' s real enough to get you the avatar.
