How should I make neopoints?

Mon Sep 12, 2005 11:01 pm

Hey everyone,

I'm considering getting back into Neopets a little. I am actually reasonably wealthy, but I'd still like to make more money. I think I'm going to paint my pet really cool and then train it like crazy with codestones. I'm going to need a TON of money to do it though and that's why I've created this thread. What do you think is the best way to make neopoints? It's between Auctions, Restocks and Stocks in my opinion. I don't really like Stocks because it's so long term and I'd like to start making money right away. If you make a recommendation, please give me some information on it or a link that can tell me about it.

Thanks

Well, my first thought was stocks, so I can't help you there. :-)

Seriously, I think it's pretty much a given that restocking is the best way to earn NP... if you're good at it, enjoy it, and have a fast connection.

Stocks have the advantage that you can make money off of them following fairly simple rules and with a small daily investment of time. Really all you need is patience and a reasonable start-up fund.

Restocking is potentially faster -- it will be months before you start seeing money back on your investment in stocks. But with restocking you have to learn the ropes, get and stay in practice and you have to spend a lot more time per day than it takes to buy 1k of stock shares.

Personally, I'm not much good at restocking (not bold enough when it comes to spending my NP, and I'm too lazy and disorganized to keep track of what is and isn't good) and find it boring when I try it. So it's stocks for me.

Hmm can you give me a rough idea of how long it will take before I start seeing profit with stocks? I guess they aren't that bad.. it's pretty easy money. But how much do you make daily after you've been doing it for a long time?

I play games. You can earn up to 50k a day doing that;)

It can take about a month before you see any profit in stocks, and it's really frustrating at first. Even once you start making neopoints it's hard to give a daily amount, because it's so sporadic. I've made 118k so far this month - but that was all from one stock. Plus I tend to sell at a lower price than a lot of people (45), so I don't know how typical that is. I've been keeping track since May but I actually started buying stock in April, and in that time I've made about 1.5 million, which works out to... *calculates* 10k a day. Which isn't that much, but it doesn't take much effort either.

Eh, I don't have a flash game trophy or anything, but I'm not bad at the games. Just find the ones you're good at ;)

That's how I make my neopoints. I get approximately 10k a day by playing some of my favorite games. I set rules about how low of a score I can submit (ie, must have 3k on Typing Terror, 5k on Sutek's Tomb, 50 on Ultimate Bullseye). I don't play all of my favorites everyday. I just pick out the ones that appeal to me the most and play them while I'm doing other things. Like I play Sutek when I'm watching movies, Ultimate Bullseye and Destructomatc II while RPing, etc. If I get bored of a game, I stop. After all, the point of Neopets is to have fun.

I used to make the majority of my neopoints by restocking, but I'm really not any good at it anymore. :( I went away from it for awhile, and now I have no idea what's good to buy and what isn't.

I really need to start keeping track of my stock market earnings, so I could answer some of these questions better.

I'm not really an expert, I pretty much just buy at 15, diversify, and start selling off at 50. Simple rules. Someone at neodaq.com could tell you more.

IIRC I started seriously buying stocks sometime in October of last year, and pretty much felt like I was throwing my NP down a black hole until Januaury... but I already had some stocks in my portfolio to start with.

You don't make NP every day in the stockmarket. Sometimes days I make 20k-80k when a stock I'd been holding on to some extra shares of in case it hit 60 or 70 or whatever does in fact hit 60 or 70 or whatever. (I tend to do a big sell-off at 50 and then sell off in bits as it goes higher as the spirit move me.) Some days I make 200k-300k. Most days I make nothing.

I gather the goal of many people on Neodaq is to make a million NP a month (an average of 33k a day), which I likewise gather is quite doable, but it takes a while to get a portfolio that big. I'm not sure I'm there yet (I need to start keeping better track of such things.)

If not a particular method, it's the combination that works.
I myself use to participate in games and the stock market, but when I learned the ropes of restocking it's my primary way of earning neopoints.
In roughly 3-5 hours my profits are usually 200-300k-- a day.
Part of that goes into gambling on Snow Faerie quests, training and some into the stock market. Either way, I have a good foundation. (:

Alright well I think I'm just going to play games and try to get good at restocking. The stock market isn't really my style. Learning to restock is hard.. I used to know how but things keep changing. Can anyone tell me the BEST place for a beginning restocker to go and what items to look for?

Thanks a lot,
BlackJack

Some easy places to start with restocking are the Toy Shop and Spooky Foods. There's often items you can make money from. It's not a TON of money, but you also aren't fighting tooth and nail over things with a thousand other Neopians.

I highly recommend using FireFox along with Adblock. I adblock all the images of the stuff that I don't want to buy in those shops and eventually, all I get are valuable items (or items I haven't seen before). That way I never have to look over everything. I only see what I want to buy. It's made me a lot of money. It takes an investment in time early on, but it's very much worth it.

(Note: If you've adblocked something you want to see again temporarily, you can disable Adblock, then reenable it when you're done. I also adblock the ads and other flash elements and images.)

I hope that helps!

Brilliant idea luv2lindy77. I installed AdBlock and I'm starting to block the images of the items I don't want at the Spooky Foods shop. I'll try restocking there for now. By the way.. what do you think the minimum amount of profit I should accept on a restock is? I just did one now, and if the thing sells, I'll have only made 23 NP profit. Lol.. what are your opinions on this?

Thanks again for helping me out everyone.

There are two types of restocking. One is at normal Neopian shops. I recommend the chocolate shop for starters...buy almost any type of chocolate that's has an almost 2d pet's shape. The other restocking is Wiz restocking. You just type in "codestone", "map", "paintbrush", etc. in the bar and keep on trying. I also recommend Spooky Food wiz restocking, in addition to what I used as examples. You can usually find a few spooky foods that sell for 1-50 gp instead of 100...Small profit but it's quick and adds up...opposite of map and paintbrush etc wiz restocking. Also, if you want to restock normal shops, always check the Garage Sale once most good items are gone...if you're lucky/quick enough you can find good stuff for very cheap there...hardly anything in the Garage Sale is a ripoff...but there are some. Gaming is good, too...but you gotta practice a whole dang lot to make a lot of money. I recommend Ultimate Bullseye...not too hard to get used to, and you can get at least 500 gp per usually...try to get a score (not NP value, but game score) of at least 60...more if you think you can do better easily enough. Phew...long post.

I don't know if I can help you much but I will try.

If you want to start restocking, I advice that wiz snipping can be much easier than restocking in the main stores, I can barely restock in them and the quantity of items is huge, I never know what to buy. Other thing I have difficulty is to know when to refresh the page. I always get bored while wait to refresh a page. But if you really want to try I sugest the Book shop. If you want to try wiz snip, first: if you want to go on huge profits get a premium account for the super wizard. Second: search for items that can worth quite a lot of nps but not the most popular items, with the new wizard it is difficult to snip Map pieces, codestone..etc.., so I sugest you go for less known things but that can get you a medium profit.

I prefer Stocks to gain np, it can take a while but the profits can be huge if you know where to invest ( I've done 800K since july and I don't buy stocks anymore ). Of course that you can't mind having up to more than 500k - 1mil np sitting in stock market if you want the huge profits ( more than 1-2 mil np per month ). And it's very easy to start playing stocks. Buy low, sell high. Buy at 15np per stock and sell at 30 - 45 - 60 np per stock. ( I you have few nps you may find better selling at 30, but you can wait you must sell higher ). And never sell a stock when it worths less than what you payed for it.

I don't game anymore on this pc since this I don't have java applets ( can't download them ) but I sugest that if you want to get good profit playing games, play the ones you are best at ( I can get 1000 np at feed skeith and moon rock rampage easily ) and play a lot ot them.

Hope I helped!
