I noticed that if you do a search on the shop wiz. "pile of soot" is registered. So it seems it should be a buyable/sellable item. .. Supposedly also from the old editorial, once your petpet is zapped into a pile of soot, it remains so even if its removed. I do know if you remove a nicely colored petpet it will revert back to its original form, but the editorial stated that a pile of soot wouldnt. But not so.. it does revert back to its origin. So theres my question.. What about the pile of soot on the shop wiz? Maybe an oversight by neo? OOPS.. where would they come from if not from the petpet lab ray? or maybe a new random event where a petpet in your inventory suddenly gets zapped into a pile of soot also? sort of like a pile of sludge scenerio?.. I would personally like to remove my soot and it remain soot. I think they are cute and I want to add it to my gallery.. any comments on this?

Not every item searchable on the Wiz is actually an item that could even potentially be purchased. Another example: exclusive weapons belonging to particular one-player Battledome opponents.
As to why it happens, basically, anything that can be equipped to a pet (including weapons, petpets, and used-to-be-petpets), and anything that can be used in the Battledome (even if it can't be used by players), is perforce classified as an "item," and the Wiz searches a database of items.
So I'm afraid your gallery will remain free of soot piles.
