Should I be worried?

Wed Jun 08, 2005 12:25 am

I just got this neomail, out of the blue:

Subject: i'm telling ya
Folder: Inbox
Message:

becareful, your neopets accounts will be delete soon. so sign up for another neopets accounts to place your money and item.

The person who sent it has a 3 week old account and, as far as I know, has never bought anything from my shop, nor I from his. He isn't in my guild. I NEVER go on the chatboards, have no fancy trophies, but I do sell pretty neggs, pbs, and other expensive stuff, and, I have some nice painted pets.

Think this person is just plain goofy or is messing with my head? Or is he out to do me in? I did get the neomail immediately after I put a bunch of neggs in my shop.

That's kinda weird, it's not obnoxious like those kind of neomails usually are. Maybe they found your username through here, there are a lot of lurkers. Still, it's probably nothing :)

I doubt someone with a three week account would have any power to know whether you were about to be banned. And notice the word deleted- that's not even the right term.

I wouldn't worry. It's probably like said- they saw you from PPT.

Probably a really jealous person, hon.
Consider, you have a plushie gallery as well as beautifully painted pets, correct? I doubt it's little more than a ploy to make you feel uncomfortable about having it >>;

Block the sender and report him/her to TNT.
3 weeks old...*rolls eyes*...can't they just get lives instead of harrassing the honest ones?

Thanks for the reassurance, Mari. My guess is that the guy was jealous of the neggs I had just put in my shop. Since the letter came seconds after I did so. And, I did send a report to TNT about it. I wrote that I wasn't necessarily reporting him, but that I was worried that he might have falsely reported me and that I had done nothing out of the ordinary or against the rules. Just to put them on notice in case the guy made something up about me. Criminy, like I don't have enough in my real and virtual lives to worry about.

yea it is most likely a prank or som1 who wants ur account to get frozen...i wouldnt worry about it..

Wed Jun 08, 2005 4:15 am

This is really weird and just seems random, Yet you never know, and I'm a really paranoid person so I'd consider creating a new one just to be on the safe side. Then again, I don't know how much good that would do because you'd lose everything else. I agree with Marinnai Kasaraki and just report them and see what happens.

Wed Jun 08, 2005 4:22 am

Nop, you shouldn't worry a thing. I've never received something like that before my account was frozen, but the person has no power whatsoever to even TELL you what you should do with your account. Just ignore him, I'd even block him if I can.

Hmm.. Weird mail. I guess it is just some weird fella going out sending that stuff to either boost the number of accounts and Neopets created or that fella just have nothing better to do. :/

or they know and talk with somebody who has a username silimar to yours and the message was not meant for you at all.

Yeah, first thing I did was check his shop to see if he had some sort of a referral link--maybe hoping I would get scared and create a new account using him as a referral. But, nada.

My best guess is that I bought a negg from him that was priced way too low and then put it in my shop for the market price (I have done that more times than I can remember--it's how I make my nps). Perhaps he thought that was not allowed.

And, stampsyne, I don't think my username was confused with someone else's. My main account has a really unique name and, at times, I have tried to enter variations of it and nothing comes up.

And herein lies TNT's problem - they don't explain this to newbies; hence if they get bought out and their items resold, they believe it's a reportable offence. I'd suggest a proper starting guide for newbies, but I doubt TNT would catch on.

But then again, it IS common sense. Something some kids are sorely lacking these days. I still can't believe this one attempted to make you sign up for another account, my dear. I feel like taking a blunt object to him >>;

(You do have to wonder what their folks teach them, if anything at all really. Buying and reselling is part of the real world (Ebay being the biggest place). It's kinda sad that these people have nothing better to do than try to make an honest soul on this game feel uncomfortable...)
