Please tell me what is so 'Profane' about this...

Tue May 17, 2005 11:57 am

I was trying to send a neomail to somebody. This is what I was going to write in the message:

First time
Heheh, well, the healing springs should fix em up real soon :P

At least it's not as bad as it was in the HatIC war though =/

Then I got the annoying Filter list rejection page- telling me not to use profanity (which included talk of religion, sex, cheats, hacks, etc.). So, thinking it was the HatIC that was stuffing me up, I tried to fix it.

Heheh, well, the healing springs should fix em up real soon :P

At least it's not as bad as it was in the Hannah and the Ice Caves war (the filter seems to block the abbreviation for some reason 0_o)

Again, same page... Then, I fixed up the first paragraph, and got rid of the 0_o.

Well, they'll be fixed up eventually. Just tell your friend to keep going to the healing springs :P

At least it's not as bad as it was in the Hannah and the Ice Caves war (the filter seems to block the abbreviation for some reason)

And you guessed it, filter rejection page.

I'm afraid of trying to neomail that person again, because I heard that after you get that filter rejection page a few times, TNT can send you a warning or suspend you (possibly even freeze if they're feeling nasty).

So can somebody please tell me what is so bad about that message I was trying to send? It's really aggrevating me.

I dunno but this works:

Well, they'll be fixed up eventually. Just tell your friend to keep going to the healing springs :P

It's better than the hannah and the ice caves war.

"fix em up" sounds drugs-related to me

Ahh, cheers :)

Maybe it was blocking the word 'filter'? Why it would do that I have no idea.

EDIT: Fix em up? Never thought of that XD

I've had the same problem before, and I think it said it was the phrase 'as bad as' that triggered the filter. I don't understand why it would, since it's such a commonly used phrase, but I have vague memories of it being the problem. Sometimes it's just a little too sensitve

Bah, the entire filter is too sensite. 'Hot' is banned, for goodness sake!

"secs" is banned too. i can see why, but it doesnt make it any less annoying. i mean you have to type out a whole 3 more letters to write seconds!

And since those under thirteen are not allowed to use neomail in the first place, I don't see why they should ban mild words like that...

My guess is it's not the whole phrase, just "bad as"... you're leaving off one "s"... Because we all have nothing better to do than spell curse words incorrectly.

Because one can easily lie about age. :battar:

It blocked 'throb' when I tried to use it in an adventure.

If they lie about their age then they are responsible for whatever "obscenities" they may see in neomails or on the boards, and TNT is in no way obligated to protect them.

However, words like "hot", "throb" etc are hardly profanities.

I think this is the same problem as the filter has with phrases like "someone's hit points"... my guess is that the problem words were in the phrase, "At least it's not". The filter ignores spaces, and often for good reason, but in trade off it also filters very confusing things if you're not expecting it.

myabe fix/fixed is the offending word. In the animal word it means spayed/neutered and it's kinda dirty. :battar:

otherwise they might think you sent the mob to set someone straight. who knows with the filterbot.

But according to Taika this worked.
