OMG! Newbie Packs!!

Mon Apr 18, 2005 2:16 am

I just got my little brother a nebiw pack and in there was two paintbrushes. one was a yellow one and the other was a green one!

Unfortunately, those paintbrushes can't be sold or traded.

There have been a lot of threads about this during the past few weeks, but I cannot seem to remember them. Anyone care to help?

I still think you should be able to put them in your shop to taunt. I dunno why they would give a newbie two in a Newbie pck. How about something like a mystery box (unsellable) that contains a really good item or a NP prize?

why do neopets even do this?

Mon Apr 18, 2005 2:37 am

1. They do this so that *newbies* can experience painting their pet.
2. They give them 2, one of their pets original color, so if they don't like it, they can paint them back.

Meh, I think it is kinda pointless really.

Neopets does a lot of things that make me shake my head in disapprovel and sigh in disgust. But those paint brushes were a big head-shake and giant groan. They're giving basic colored paint brushes to people who probably don't want to paint their newly created pet anyway. Then they turn around and make the more desirable paint brushes impossible to get by making them an avatar item.

NPT, do you even play your own game? Do you have any idea what's going on?

NPT: "a duhhhhh" *slobber*
me: "ugh" *rolls eyes*

I wouldn't be that harsh. TNT made the newbie p/bs for newbies since you normally won't want a basic coloured pet if you're not. The basic colours were inflated enough so it was good that they can no longer be touched. I'm sure TNT knew that thias move would cause some backlash but the benefits outweigh the costs

Uh, no? Who else but older players would want a basic color paint brush? Newbies can go out and create a yellow ixi if they so desire. The one main reason I can imagine people using basic color brushes is to repaint pets after using a transmog. Maybe there's recovering from Boochi or a nasty lab zap, but why on earth would a newbie need to repaint their red nimmo blue? None of the people who would actually have a reason to use the basic color brushes can get them for free so this really doesn't have much if any affect on their inflation.

The experience factor doesn't hold much water either when the pure fact of the matter is that newbies who beg for paint brushes want expensive paint brushes like baby and faerie and couldn't care less about a free default color paint brush they can't sell.

If anyone read the editorial (I forget what issue), the purpose of these paint brushes is to give Newbies a "feel" for what paint brushes are and how they work. They're not really meant as a way to reduce inflation or something.

I think it was a great move, as it eliminates newbie questions about paint brushes and also helps newbies learn about the game and it's aspects.

I have no problems with it in and of itself since it's so pointless, but I'd hardly call it a great move. Donna promised to do something about paint brush inflation in another Editorial and not too long after released an avatar that caused the further inflation of the pink paint brush and then another requiring a krawk. Their good ideas come in fits and starts, which are too often and unfortunately overidden by their bad ones.
