Neohate (people who hate neopets)

I was looking for some information on the ads on neopets to help my boyfriend with a project he is working on dealing with internet advertising. I wanted to get a quote from that Wall Street Journal article that appeared a few weeks ago, so I did a quick google search. One of the first things that came up was a site devoted to how horrible neopets is. I read some of the comments people wrote, and quickly realized that some are quite mis-informed and did not catch on that this site is a game. Now, some of those people who are mad, I can understand. But others just seem to be pulling things out of the air, or focusing on catch phrases.
Can anyone here maybe explain to me why people would devote so much time to hating a site that is supposed to be just a game? And not even a violent one, like the ones people point at everytime there is a school shooting.

Hmm, well, I suppose they dont understand the work it takes to MAINTAIN this site. With the many amount of users, troublemakers, updates and whatnot. I suppose it is rather hard to monitor 500,000 people on the neoboards at the same time.

because they think it has too much rules,
because they think its a stupid kids site with nothing to do
because the pets look too cute for them,
because they were frozen for something
because all their friends think its stupid
because it seems very boring
because they are under the impression that everyone who goes there is a "newbie"
because almost everyone on the neoboards uses chatspeak,
They think the boards suck so the whole site must suck too
because the staff never tells its users anything
because they don't get that neo is a pet site
because they don't have enough freedom (like swearing)
And the list goes on...=/

There is an antineopets forum where people basically make fun of Adam, and post their anti-Adam images. They complain about the rules and talk about how dumb everyone on neopets is, using examples solely from the neoboards.

My guess is that it is made up of people who were frozen or were scammed while playing Neopets. Or people who did nothing but scam while on Neopets. And, of course, people who used to play Neopets, never were good at it or never put an effort into it, and now think it is "babyish."
According to my daughter, there were lots of kids in her jr. high class who played a few years ago and gave it up--for whatever reason. They now poke fun at people who still play the game--even though, at one time, they were totally addicted to it. It doesn't help that almost all of the Neopets advertising is geared to little kids. It makes it appear juvenile, when in fact it is far from it.
These people just don't know what they are missing--and obviously, don't have much of a life if the best they can do is sit around and make fun of a website that is undoubtedly one of the best--and most profitable--gaming sites around.
They can poke fun all they want at Adam and Donna, but those two were geniuses to think up something like Neopets--when nothing ever existed like it before and nothing still has even come close to competing with it. Laugh, laugh, laugh, you anti-Neopets site, but my guess is that Donna, Adam, and Mr. Dohring are laughing all the way to the bank with the profits they have made from their website. Perhaps someone should suggest to those bad-mouthing the site to come up with something better. I won't hold my breath.

Anticulture usually forms when an individual developes a focus (dislike or envies) on somebody else. The object of thier focus does not stay contained on that person, but also on what that person likes or dislikes. Sometime quite irrationally.
An example would be " I hate ____. S/He is so mean and self centered. Also obsessed with tricking people out of stuff on Neopets. Neopets sucks."

These guys are so contradictory. They say neopets is too kiddyish, that it's been dumbed down, then they complain the games are too hard. The games supposedly aimed at kids.

Somewhere between 6 and 6:30 pm, Tuesday evening, Jessah went to the neopets newly revamped chat boards in desperation ?she had one thing on her mind. And once her thread discussing her depression and intent to end her life that night, Neopets shut down the thread ?containing support from many other loving people ?and gave her an official warning. And so she created another dissing-neopets thread, which was promptly shut down.
And then she slit her wrists.
Thankfully, she had contacted the Teen Suicide Help line, which alerted the police ?which promptly launched an ambulance.

I joined and was thinking about quitting neopets for this site. It was very similar but much less strict and less cutified pets. I liked it and created my first pet. Another surprise! Pets started out as babies then grew up. I looked around the site a bit. Despite being new and still having a few teething problems, I could see that it was better than neopets, a lot better. The next day when I went back the site was gone, without a trace. Deleted. I thought my computer was having problems, I switched onto my laptop and when that didn't work tried again the next day. Zetapets was gone. The same thing has happened to Chizzypets and Dizzypets (I havn't checked Dizzy, I think they just changed all their layout and pets, not actually deleted, but Im not sure), and Kiropets has had to completely cut Neopets off from themselves to avoid it happening, it is against the rules to say the word "Neopets" or "Neo" there, but I'm worried the same thing is going to happen.
I don't know how Neopets manage to stop them, but I'm sure they do. Maybe the neo users turn against the rival sites, maybe the neopets team say its copying, I don't know. I'm sure, however, that Neopets is behind it.

You can still walk right up to the neopets website and register for your free account and be playing that day. Do not fear. ... but then how is it no longer free, you ask?

No one told you to sign up for premium. You still get to play without it.3. Emails. Bombard the Neopets e-mails (we will have a complete list of their e-mails on the site soon) and their forms to complain about everything that is wrong with their site - may not seem to be working, but it is personally fulfilling and undoubtedly annoying to them, and after a while they won't be able to blindly ignore.

Just checked out their official forums (http://www.antineopian.com/ for those who don't know
), and I gotta say, some of that stuff there is bloody hilarious. Worth checking out is their Pro-Neopets section. Some pro-neopians have some actually decent posts expressing their opinions on what's good and what's bad about Neopets, and no matter how intelligent the posts are, most of these anti-neopians consider them to be 'narrow-minded' and 'idiotic'. 
I've got one question for them. They dislike Neopets because it 'kills of the competition' and 'treats it's users unfairly'. If I asked how many of them used Microsoft products, I'm guessing at least 99% majority. And if Microsoft isn't the perfect example of 'eliminating the competition', I don't know what is. I admit I use Windows. Big whoop. I'm not trying to stop them.
Please note, that they seem to swear more than a die-hard footy fan at the Grand Final, so enter at your own risk.

I went to the guestbook, 3rd response down from the top is some person comparing Neopets to Nazi Germany. I promptly closed the browser. It's ridiculous and quite funny. I like how they are wasting their time with something they dislike rather than spending time doing something they enjoy.

Well neopets DOES kind of suck, but why on earth would you waste all that time making a whole frikkin website devoted to it? It sounds like some people need to get a new hobby.

Once I saw a site with reviews of a lot of Virtual Pets Sites like aftermathzone, subeta, petgamers and of course, Neopets. All of the other sites get nice ratings, but that person rates Neopets a 2/10. Then as you read more you find that the person's account (s) was/were frozen. The person spend sooo much time making soo many pages praising other pet sites to make Neopets look bad.
And some of them don't know how to make NPS, and keeps saying "Neopets Suck, somepetssite is much better, you can easily make currencyname and paint ur pet." And they don't spell.

People on those forums complained about the boards and chatspeaking, yet many of them were doing it.
I don't get why they complained about strict rules. So what if you can't swear on a virtual pet site? Why do you even need to?
Also, I know inflation has become bad, but I feel pleased to acheive a goal, with all my work put into it, if you want something, you work for it, and I believe you feel better about it at the end of the day.
Other pet sites? For some reason, I signed up to Zetapets, and I found it much more complex and incomplete compared to Neopets. They have 4 games, of which two provide some challange. Neopets, admittidly, is the better site. At least we aren't asked to make a PayPal donation, that would have them up in arms.
