Freezing alternate accounts?

Thu Mar 31, 2005 1:03 am

I'm planning to do something that I feel badly about but think is important. I want to go on the Neoboards with a spare account I haven't used for years and post direct quotes from ads on Neopets. "Who will get pregnant first" and the like. If I'm iced, it'll make great ammunition for Project Pillsbury.

What I'm worried about is having my main account iced as well. I have a Krawk and some very valuable items I do not wish to lose. Will TNT ice my main since I access it from the same IP?

It's hard to say. I think your chances are better if you don't use the same email address for both, but that's no guarantee.

If you're really worried about it, I'd say you should probably just not break the rules. ;)

Err, what exactly would posting those quotes do? And what would it prove? Obviously, since those ads were removed from Neo's ad rotation (I haven't seen them in ages), they weren't meant to be there in the first place. So if anything, you're just asking to be iced since that sort of stuff isn't allowed to be posted.

Sign up with a different E-mail account, and use a computer in a different location (like, library, school, parent's office, whatever). Make sure that they can't possibly connect that account with your current account

If you absolutely, positively feel like you have to do this, I agree with Shapu. Make a new account on a completely different email (like gmail, etc.) and definitely use a different computer with a different IP. Also be sure to not give TNT any "easter eggs" like username, pet name (if you create/adopt a pet), siggy, ... anything.

Just using a spare account could jeopardize any other accounts you have - they can and do IP ban. Which leads me to think that even using, say, a school or library computer would not be a good thing. You could end up IP banning/freezing others who use the same computers for something you're doing.

Personally, I don't see what this would accomplish and I am one of the people who is from time to time almost horrified by some of the ads; both the content and some of the little nasties that can end up on you computer from them.

People are frozen on a regular basis for talking about the ads, or the upcoming movie (especially if they're poking fun, critisizing, etc.). You know they don't take well to any critisism on the site.

I can see why you'd want to, but I have to agree that it's probably not a good idea. So how about an alternate? Maybe screenshot all the bad ads(make sure you can see they come from Neo), and also screenshot the rules those ads break. Gather as much info as you can without jeopardizing your accounts in the process. While I'm all for the cause, I don't want anyone to be the sacrificial lamb.

Use a proxy.

Thu Mar 31, 2005 5:43 am

Yeah, thats a good idea. use a proxy site.

http://www.nomorelimits.net and http://www.proxify.com work well :)

I dunno if it'll do much good though, unless you make like dozens of accounts and post in each of those (i.e. spam the baords - also not a very good idea)

Or you can just sign up from a library computer or something... But the proxy idea is good. :)

(Congrats on getting 1k of signatures by the way. ;))

I don't want to spam, I just want to prove that the content of the ads isn't appropriate for the site. It'd expose them as hypocrites if the account was iced. You know, double standard. One thing for the players and another for the paying advertisers.

Yea... but weren't most of the ads removed? Like the pregnant and other inappropriate ones?

I saw one for an online pharmacy yesterday. It linked to a site selling, among other things, generic Viagra and Cialis.

That one doesn't bother me, the annoying thing. It's on TV and not meant to be rude.

But there are actual sexual ones still circulating. I usually ignore but today I was appauled.

Classy. Definitely get a proxy, or do it from a different computer. A guild mate of mine had one of her accounts frozen for "scamming"(it was a bum rap, believe me, she's 40 years old), and all of her three accounts were frozen with it. Along with her daughter's.
