Warning : Codestone Scam

Sun Mar 13, 2005 1:25 am

People are advertising that they are having a codestone sell in their shop for 50NP. But thats not the truth, when you click to buy, it actually charges you 99,999 NP. It didn't happen to me, but it did happen to alot of people on the BD chat. Its something to watch out for.

Isn't there some message that comes up warning you if the price has been changed? o_O I think there used to be ones cause I got that a lot when I was buying Halloween Goodie Bags... It's too bad that people do things like this. Thanks for the warning!

Someone on the premium board said the same thing. It happened to him.

I don't think its the price warning thing. They use some kind of code to make the codestone in the shop appear to be 50nps. But in reality it is 99,999nps. Thats how people are buying them without noticing.

i never carry that much np on me anyway so i think i'm safe

That only applies if the prices changes after you enter the shop but before you buy the item. If it changes before you enter the shop then nothing appears

People who restock. :P

Thanks for warning me... I was planning to get some, soon, possibly. So this was definately good to know. :)

Yeh me too... The maximum I ever carried was like 50K

I rarely carry more than 1000 around (I don't restock).

You reported the shops, right? If not, I'll gladly refresh at the shop wiz until I catch one of them.

Even when I restock I don't carry that much :P

Scary scam though... most people, especially when grabbing an underpriced item, don't normally bother to look at the pop-up warning box.

are you saying that theres no warning box that comes up that the price has changed? and that they actually appear to be 50, and it says that they cost 50 in the shop, but youll be charged 99,999 for them?

if its like that, with no warning popup.. that is so scary........

SS:)

No, when it asks you to buy the item w/ either the yes or no option, it shows as 99,999nps I think, but as Qanda said, when buying a really cheap underpriced item, you won't bother to look at the price in the popup.

And Firefox screws it up, so people using it cant really fall for it.

I always check the popup box for the price confirmation. I learned a hard lesson a couple Advent Seasons ago. At Advent, scammers often price their advent items super cheap on the Shop Wiz, then quickly change the price by the time you click on it in their shop. In my zeal to grab a great bargain, I didn't notice that the confirmation box showed that the person had switched the price from 299 NPs to 29,999 NPs. And that's the reason I always double check! 8)
