Project Pillsbury

Mon Feb 28, 2005 5:43 pm

I thought it was about time PP had its own topic. In case you somehow haven't heard of it, Project Pillsbury is the petition I started to have the new 200x200 ads removed from Neopets. Sign here.

We have about 450 signatures right now, not including several I've had to delete due to inappropriate comments. I set the goal at 500, so we're very close. The idea is that I will send the petition, once the goal is reached, to Neopets and its sponsors. I realise that there is a very good chance it won't get anywhere, but then again it might.

Although I started the petition, I really feel like it doesn't belong to me. It belongs to all of you who took the time to sign. I was amazed at some of the articulate, well-thought-out comments people have left. I plan to compile quotes from some of these comments for a writeup about PP when all is said and done. Thank you to all who have signed, for wanting change and believing in what I say.

I never imagined that PP would come this far, and I sincerely hope that we can make a difference in the way Neopets is run.

I've heard a million times how stupid, pointless, etc. this is. I've been told that Neopets needs the money, that the ads are none of my business, and that I should shut up. If these are your opinions, you have the right to post them. Just know that I will pay you very little attention.

And by the way, if you don't believe that one girl can triumph against nearly impossible odds, you obviously haven't watched enough Disney movies. ;)

500 signatures will NOT be enough to even make them blink an eye, especially since it's an online petition. I recommend at least 10,000 if you want people to really listen. I support this, but it will most likely not have an impact.

It makes me blink an eye.
And it also makes me think "HOW DID YOU GET 500 PEOPLE TO COME THERE? I CAN'T EVEN GET 500 PEOPLE TO COME TO MY WEBSITE!"

That amused me. XP!

It might make you, Adam, but will it make anyone in the Neopets Inc. Business Department?

They would have to blink eventually. I doubt they all are staring contest champions.

Well, of course they'd have to blink, but would they acknowledge this petition? =/

Well, here is my opinion. Right now, this petition is pointless. Your cause is good, but your thesis, or purpose, is not going to get you anywhere with Neopets.

I've signed your petition, and put the following as my "comment":

I really don't mind the ads at all. They're at the bottom and out of the way for me. However, I'd like to see more targeted ads, because I'm not sure many people would know or like to know which celebrity is going to get pregnant first...

You should forget about trying to get rid of them all together. That just won't happen. Instead, fight against their poor ad choice.

Yelling at Neopets to take the ads down probably won't work. The Neoboards probably have yelled more, and the problem is still there. As mentioned above, you should just change your purpose so the ads are more bearable than they are now. The "graduate" ads and "Who will be pregnant first?" ads should be targetted towards the adult audience, while soft drink or music ads could be targetted to teens and kids.

I think everyone is just angry and upset about these ads because they are completely irrelevant to their lives and hold no meaning to them whatsoever. When you're flipping through a magazine, or browsing around the internet, you don't stop to look at the things you don't care about, right?

And yes, what everyone else is saying: You need more signatures than 500. It's a good starting goal, but the end goal should be a minimum of 5,000-10,000 signatures.

This belongs there.
As it had been advertised in there before, I do believe it can go there again.
