don't be too quick to accept your trade!

Tue Jun 22, 2004 10:01 pm

not that this is a particuarly new kind of scam but recently i have seen more victims and just now, i encountered a potential scammer.

as i was going abt my daily neopian activity, i suddenly receive a neomail that said:

Hello. I would like to buy your yellow poogle morphing potion for 450k. Please make a seperate trade for it as soon as possible and I will offer right away. Please its a gift for my friend and I need it fast.

i quickly replied that i have set it up and separated it. almost immediately, there is a bid of 45k+a treasure from another player name. i rejected it immediately.

moments later, i received another reply:
Ahh! Sorry I made an offer a couple minutes ago and it just got accepted so never mind. Sorry though!

although i can't outright label her a scammer but it is obvious enough. firstly, the response to the initial neomail and trade was set up immediately so in the meanwhile, there was no excuse to find another buyer. secondly, the bid was exactly 45k..not 1k, 1np but one less zero.

hence, there wasn't any evidence to report this person. recently, some players have fallen for this kind of scam where in their desperateness to sell an item, accept a prearranged offer immediately but realise the actual offer was much less and they got ripped off. there is no way to report them as there's little evidence and you can only kick yourself.

Grrr!

Thats so annoying, because you get your opes up and all excited and pleased and they rain on your bonfire by trying to scam you.

Good luck selling your MP!

It happened to me lots of times. stoopid people make those offers. I just regect them immediatley.

That's one of those things were you have to read really really carefully. I've almsot fallen for that before, but luckily my computer was acting slow so I was forced to read the bid slowly lol.

lol, i am not really frustrated abt my hopes getting dashed. it frequently happened with players asking to separate and reserve but never bid, although not all of them are such cases. i have learnt to accept that as part of trying to sell your stuff in the TP. junk bids are tolerable but neomailing then bidding junk indicate an obvious intent to scam. this particular player is not brave enuff to do it with one account but i have seen a case yesterday at the trading board where the scammer actually neomailed and offered from the same account and even said that a deal's a deal. heh

Yup, it's always good advice to check offers over. You can never be too careful.

This is quite an evil way to scam people. I am starting to think that there are private guilds out there that formulate scams like this.

Thanks for the heads-up/ :)
