Ugly Square Ads (split)

Reading in French is harder than I thought. I'm tempted to just go to Babelfish, translate the entire Neopets from French to English, then sign in from there.

But hey, to those wondering about whether they're gonna integrate ads into other languages...maybe not. Check out the Bleh! page in a different language. It mentions only a 12 pixel shift, and is only half translated.

Obviously TNT will focus mainly on the English-speaking users since the market is larger and many ad companies only have ads in English...

Looking at the last page or so of the last thread, it appears to me that what Neopets is doing with the ads is against their privacy policy that all of us signed up under. In addition to that, there is no contractural change loophole because the privacy policy states that it will remain the same as the one we signed up under.

I'm just curious, but isn't it illegal to violate your own privacy policy?

I'm just wondering when they will catch on that changing your language can get rid of the banners...im sure very soon.

They probably won't do anything about that (see my first post). People with ads got a 90 px shift on each page, while people in other languages were promised a 12 px shift (no ad). Considering how long it's been like this, it's not likely.

Thats really weird...soon all restockers will change languages...i mean the lag time is just cut out completely it almost feels illegal how fast it goes...i guess thats what premium experiences as well

^^;; I'd recommend taking screenshots of the privacy policy, before they change it to say that they may change it at any time without prior notice... it seems like something they'd do.

I'm seriously thinking about it.

How about it guys, who's in on a class action lawsuit?

That'll get Dohring's attention... You have to hit him where it hurts... the wallet!

In case you're wondering, I am serious, I just like the evil smiley.

We know screenshots can be faked. Is there a more secure way of getting a duplicate? Would printing it work?

Can somebody please point me to where in the policy it says they cant put ads on the bottom for different languages? (Just for curiosity sake) :)

I just saved it as an .html file in it's entirety... I'm not sure if there's a guaranteed way, but I think the .html file is the best.

It doesn't to my knowledge. It is simply a matter of practicality and money.

Practicality: They would have to find sponsors in France to put French ads up. An ad is an image at it's root, so it isn't a simple matter of entering it into babblefish or something.

Money: The US is the richest most extravegant nation on earth. For proof check out the Hummer, the biggest, most gas guzzling vehicle the world has yet seen on the open market. Americans love that machine because it represents weath. Ad companies know that America is a more lucrative market than abroad (generally).

End result, they could decide that France should have this advertising too and then you have to learn Thai to avoid the ads.

But its stupid...I live in Australia and I'm getting commercials about the US when I have my language switched to english whats the point?
