Who is the co- owner and the owner of Neopets?

Mon Feb 07, 2005 9:16 am

I would appreciate your help... I'm not a native English speaker and I can't figure out the difference between owner and co- owner.

Actually, the real owner is Doug Dohring. HE owns Neopets. But, on the other hand, Adam and Donna both share responsibility of the site. They decide what goes in and out, etc.

Maybe a bit confusing, but thats corporations for you.

So... who exactly are they?

You can read about each of them here :

Ah, it's OK(great set by the way!)

An owner is refered to as a single person who possesses a company(see sole proprietorship(although these are a tad different since this would refer to full liability), co-owners refers to more than one person owning the company(or in possession of a co-principal agreement(which is really the same thing)). In this case, from what we know, neopets is owned by Dohring.

yes but if Adam didn't do his job properly neo would just fall

or get replaced...

which would result in mass protests

like some firing Yukio when this site goes corp.

Dohring=CEO and major owner (CEO=chief executive officer, I believe)
Doug Kale (I think)=COO (chief operating officer)
Adam and Donna=cool! I think they may still own a share of the company, too.

The press kit should be helpful for this.

When I look at those photos, they always remind me of the apprentice.

Does anyone have pics of Adam or Donna? I've never actually seen what they look like, that Press site doesn't have there pics on it

Because Neopets is a privately-held corporation, it is hard to know exactly who owns it. Privately-held means the company's stock is not available for the public to purchase and that also means that the names of the stockholders do not have to be disclosed.

One online article says this: "Although it is commonly thought that NeoPets is owned by Adam Powell and Donna Williams, the founders, they own only a partial share; much of the company was bought by Doug Dohring soon after being created." However, there have been several magazine/newspaper articles stating that Adam and Donna sold the company to Doug Dohring--leading me to think they sold all of it to him. So, it is hard to know whether or not Mr. Dohring is the sole owner of the corporation.

However, he definitely owns most of the corporation's stock. In a private corporation, the shareholders are supposed to vote yearly to determine who the chief officers and directors of the corporation will be (1 vote per share of stock). So, if someone owns more than 50% of the stock, he/she alone gets to decide who the chief officers and directors will be. Since the press kit says that Doug Dohring has been the CEO and chairman of the board of directors since the corporation's inception, you can conclude that he owns more than 50% of the stock in Neopets, Inc.

The picture was taken a few years ago so they may look different now.

I was just browsing through the Press Kit. How ironic that all the banners on the screenshots (here) are Neopets, not offsite ones.

That's probably because the offsite advertisement changes due to who is willing to pay.
