Recent Manual Inflation: Buyers Beware!

Sat Feb 05, 2005 7:09 pm

In future, could we please keep all discussion about the manual inflation into one thread.
List of highly inflated items: Spoonfish, Locator Device, Jetsam Ace Action Figure, Blue Yurble Sofa, Cybunny Care, Tuskaninny Treasure, National Philharmonic Speaker, Goldy Backscratcher, Tyrannian Horn, Glowing Green Hot Dog, Ixi A-Z, Yellow Yurble Toothbrush, Obedience Medallion(feel free to add)

UGHH They are at it again

This has only just happened I think

I just put up some PBs for trade and had a whole lot of offers from Different ppl offering these speakers

I looked up the TP and most are priced reasonably, except for the latest entry which is this

290k, cheapest in the trades! ..make a profit and by it, u can sell for up to 6mil.....

They are STILL BUYABLE in the shop wiz for around $8

Letting everyone know , hopefully we can stop them in their tracks...

grrrrr, they dont give up, there is something new every day

SS:)

I fell for that one a couple of days ago. I didn't lose much, but I put it under one of the other threads (Cybunny Care inflation thread) ... since there were already plenty of buyable ones on the Shop Wizard at that point.

I guess I could have made another main thread about it to make sure people noticed it ... but I guess it is worth mentioning.

In future, could we keep all of these cases into the single thread, so we don't get a flood of information. If you see an inflated item, raise the signal by posting here!

Sat Feb 05, 2005 9:40 pm

We should probably sticky this topic or something then

just because a topic is popular doesnt mean its going to be stickied..... but it is popular... anybody want to make a list of the recently inflated items? *there have been many threads about them....*

I think it was decided by just about everyone that we wouldn't sticky the inflation post because it seems we only get on once a week or two and then it is nice to get a heads up instead of contiual posting in a sticky thread...

I was speaking to Rune, and we decided that all discussion on this topic will be in this thread, or a split thereof; however, we will not sticky this thread, because it isn't as common a topic as the other stickies.

Sorry about that, Id not had any internet for 30 hours, our power was cut due to severe storms over here, anyway, I just looked at the thread titles since you usually put the item name in the thread title , and since I couldnt find this one, thought It best I let everyone know JIC someone got caught out.

I cant work out what is going on with the huge drop in furniture prices in general today on the TP either,

Always something going on in there......hehe....

I don't think a single thread will be nearly as effective at letting people know what things are being inflated. ScottNak had "ruled" just the opposite ... that a new thread with my "Buyer Beware ==> " was good at getting the news out.

The problem with a single thread ... is that no one will read through the entire thread to find the inflated items. Having the title announce the inflated item was much better at informing people. I *do* think these threads are important to many people ... I could be wrong, though. That's up to the moderators to decide.

My idea, would be ... how about some sort of post where the first post can be modified by any of the moderators such that *first* post includes a list of the inflated items (and perhaps the date reported). This would make a single place and post where people could read the latest items people are trying to scam.

Discussion could be put into a thread of its own ... but a single post somewhere where the items are listed is a must, I think ... if we want to cut down on the number of topics created with artificially inflated prices.

Just my 2 cents. I just wanted to let my opinion be known on the matter ... since I had been responsible for many of the first "buyer beware" threads.

weekends are cool! (especially when we don't have to be waiting around for a new mystery pic!)

I'm also for the separate thread concept, as it does help alert people, but nonetheless, I've edited in a list of all the inflated items mentioned about that I can see. If you see anymore, just post and I guess one of us mods'll throw it in as well.

Well, it's up to them whether they want to read it or not. If they don't bother to read the news others have kindly posted here, then it's not anyone's fault if they get cheated. There seriously is not need to make concessions, since people concerned about this stuff would definitely take the initiative to read it.

Yes well... even I have my superiors. And apparently they have spoken ;)
So keep 'em in one thread.

And to help out everyone see what items are under inflation and help us mods make a list on the first post... try and bold them or something ;)

I wasn't saying people who were interested wouldn't read all the posts ... but I imagine once this gets to be 10 pages long, all the information would be scattered all over those 10 pages and just be hard to find/remember. The point of us pointing out the inflated items is to help fellow PPT'ers from getting the short end of the stick on a trade.

So, I totally disagree that people should have to wade through 10 pages of stuff to get the relevant information that we've posted. I don't quite understand the "making concessions" remark ... I was just stating my opinion.

I think that the adding to the first post thing will work great.

I'm also hoping that this can make everyone happy. I'm *MORE* pleased with this system anyway ... since it condenses all the information into one nice place. I think a few of the mods have stated they value and appreciate the information, so I'm glad a few of them are "volunteering" to help edit the first post.

I actually don't know who the super-administators are, who are just plain administrators, or who are the Gods. :) Perhaps lightning will strike me down now ... and I will learn the errors of my ways.

Anyway, this is going to be great! I'm really excited about it. yay! and Thanks!

*raises an eyebrow*

Right.
So.

However.
You have to realise, Mods are people too. We have our lives outside of PPT, and though I know we all love our jobs here, sometimes it's difficult to keep up with things such as updating a thread. Not all of us can 'volunteer' time. I myself am in College, and my time lately has been a bit strained. So I would not feel so comfortable in 'volunteering' that time at the moment.

p.s I posted the mods in brown because it hurts my brain to even try to read the list in orange. *cringe* But normally we're the ones with the *points to my name* Orange stars.

p.p.s Anyone who thinks they saw that I forgot Yoshi in the mod list, is completely crazy.

p.p.p.s Anyone else who thinks that they think that I forgot werepup and Marissa... aren't crazy, just silly. *points up* look they're there in the listing.

:) thanks for the mod list. I was certainly hoping I wasn't going to be struck down. *smile* I feel a little more informed now. Thanks.

I wasn't trying to imply that the mods didn't have lives. ;) Many of us lowly users have lives as well (well, I do at least ... I can't speak for anyone else). :roflol: That's what I think will be so cool about having the updated thread ... it makes it so much easier to digest/remember any information.

Volunteer might have been a bad word by me. I wasn't expecting that any mod that saw a post in this thread would have to update the top of the thread with any new items. Not at all! That would be completely ludicrous of me to think. Please forgive me if I came across that way.

I only meant that it seemed there were a few mods that had expressed interest in the idea of updating the thread ... so I thought this was going to work out great!

When I said that "I'm also hoping that this can make everyone happy," I was referring to the people who didn't want to see new threads arise each time a new item had been inflated. It will definately cut down on the new topics that some people might not be interested in. So everyone wins! :)

Hopefully this came across as nicely put and respectful. I'm just excited about this idea ... I just think it will be so helpful. And I appreciate any help/support the mods are/will be giving to it. 0:)

Editted: "Goldy Back Scratcher" ... people on TP are claiming it is worth 20 million. Just got offered it on one of my big trades *twice* It is R91 ... artifically inflated. One on the SW at 99,999 now ... but I'm sure it won't last.
