The Current State of Neopia

Tue Feb 01, 2005 1:37 am

Neopets has, as you know, been around since 1999. Since then, the site has gone through innumerable changes and additions, as well as attracting millions of players (and advertising companies). Some of these changes and additions have been good, and many have been bad. But one thing is for certain: The site will never stay the same.

Consider the following, reflected by both facts and majority opinion:

Recent Pros:
- New scratchcard Kiosk
- Site functioning excellently despite occasional laggy days
- The plot is over
- Decreasing New Member (bah, those filters) levels
- Dying chain letters
- A constant influx of new items
- New, good, and easy-to-get avatars
- New pet coming soon, currently name the "Mok" (though subject to change)
- Heavy Codestone Deflation
- Introduction of several new daily games with good prices/prizes
- "Lock Topic" Feature (Though it's underused)
- Changes in Shop Stock
- The Random Contest
- EDIT'D! Suspending Accounts
- TNT A splode! Avatar
- No high-rarity items for 2 months - Cuts down on autobuyers (for two months; they'd just make a crapload of accounts)

Recent Cons:
- HUGE Banner Ads
- Heavy inflation
- Lousy War Prizes
- Bad Plot
- Large amount of unjustified freezings
- Lag
- Mediocre Advent Calendar Prizes
- Random Thieves Winning Random Contest
- EDIT'D! Suspending Accounts
- ALSO EDIT'D! TNT's obsession with (Mostly? Generally? Really? Omgwtfbbq?) crappy merchandise
- ALSO ALSO EDIT'D! The Terms and Conditions still lack clarity. This ties in with the vast amount of people who get frozen unfairly, and there are so many gray areas it makes your head a splode (And that avatar still isn't released :().
- Also also also edit'd! (This is the third, so it doesn't get caps :D) no high-rarity items for 2 months (Cuts down on people being able to make really good and relatively easy cash as a newbie; discourages unfairly-frozen users)

So, what direction do you think the site's headed in?

I don't see the mean here.

What I do see is someone detailing a list of both pros and cons, with the pros being bigger than the cons.

I won't even bother debating the "first true failure" comment for reasons that should be self-evident to any user whos been active for over 6 months.

In the con column there should be a big mention of the still incomplete T & C.

I thought the list was very generous... If I had made the list, TNT would look like a bunch of evil monkeys with giant Ice-Rays...

You forgot making it so accounts 2 months old can't get good rare items.
They did that to stop autobuyers.

I dont think the Advent Calender Prizes were that bad! Compare them from last years, the Purple Sticky Hand is looking pretty good compared to the Seasonal Battle Duck!

That's all that I see as being useful. All the other items were just new things. I would've liked to make some profit off a faerie or a codestone, harhar.

- HUGE Banner Ads

Easily avoided with the css formatting trick. They still load, but you can't see them.

Yes, but they still take up both drive and visible space. No movement, but it causes lag (Sometimes a ton of it) and the adds are still saved to cache. Also, they can still put stuff on your computer...

FireFox Adblock is better for getting rid of the banner ads, in my opinion.

Oh will you stop the constant whining? Neopets was created for fun, the least the creators want is for them to be bashed on a site where it's FREE to do fun stuff. Hell, if you guys didn't have Neopets you'd be slumpin' around the house cryin' "Wahh. Mommy, I can't do anything. It's so BORING!"

Here you are complaining so much about so-called "bad-service" on their site, hey, I am sure some people were unrightfully banned here, PPT made a mistake, does Neopet's bash us? No. Sure they make mistakes alot, but, what do you expect? ROBOTS?! They're humans like you and me! They have to handle such a big site! C'mon, you'd make mistakes too, admit it.

At any given time, they can explode with all the bashings, when they do.....No more Neopets...Which would mean no more PPT. Slumpin'. I don't think TNT likes being called "idiot" sometimes. Or "moronic", "idiotic" "stupid" or "dumb". Right, Adam? Right, Donna?

Call me a suck-up, I kick you. I am just trying to stop the flaming that some of you do. Not all of you, some of you.

----------------------------------------------------------

Anyways, I am quite proud of Neopets now, they have improved from when they first started! Remember those old neggs? Remember the color jobs? Heh. Look at them now, they are awsomeley awsome!! I don't know why you guys think that Maraquan Gelert is bad, I think it is the best Gelert color, right? The new thick lines on those shopkeepers give more life to the image, right? The games now are so detailed and tricky, I bet they got smarter than before! The new server is very fast, except for the odd laggy day, but who cares? Atleast it isn't DfM!

FYI, I like everything Neopets is doing, WHO HERE AGREES?

The locking of useless topics seems like an idea of PPT's. They must lurk here. I love whenever they spoof us in one of their products. Frozen Accounts and Banner Ads!

Of course they need ads, they need them for the site to stay alive. I for one am glad they do ads.
